As a Senior Transportation Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and integrity of transportation infrastructure. Your expertise in construction inspection, materials sampling, and testing will support engineers and higher-level technicians, directly impacting the success and safety of various projects. By managing and mentoring a team of technicians, overseeing complex tasks, and providing detailed reports, you will contribute to the seamless execution and compliance of construction activities. This role is essential in maintaining high standards and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

Your Day-to-Day:



  • Perform Materials Sampling and Testing: Conduct materials sampling and testing on concrete, asphalt, soil, ABC, and other construction materials to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Inspect Construction Work: Oversee construction work, including erosion and sedimentation control monitoring, to verify adherence to plans and regulations.
  • Compose Daily Diaries and Test Reports: Document daily construction activities and material test results, measure and record quantities of work completed, and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Monitor Contractor Compliance: Ensure contractors' operations comply with contracts, plans, and specifications through diligent monitoring and inspection.
  • Coordinate Work Assignments for a Team: Manage and integrate the work of other technicians, reviewing and analyzing their tasks to ensure cohesive and efficient project execution.


In this role, you may experience shifting work hours based on project needs and weather conditions, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and/or Holidays.

What You Bring:



  • One of the following education/experience combinations:

    • High school diploma/GED required and a minimum of 10 years of highway-related construction or inspection experience
    • 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with a minimum of 5 years of highway-related construction experience


  • Multiple active industry certifications:

    • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
    • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
    • DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete


  • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure



Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:



  • Outdoor, hands-on work in all weather conditions
  • Lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. of materials and equipment
  • Safely handling field tools and maneuvering equipment on active construction sites
  • Working outside normal business hours and traveling out-of-town and possibly overnight for assignments as needed
