Job Summary

Performs mammographic radiological procedures and duties at a technical level, not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performance of these duties and procedures requires independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Must possess the necessary skills to perform mammographic procedures for adult and geriatric patients. These may include biopsy, hook wire or ultrasound.

Essential Functions

  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's values: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.

  • Document patient screening / history.

  • Perform mammogram exams (i.e. screening, diagnostic, special images which may also include ultrasound, biopsy and hook wire).

  • Perform bone density exams.

  • Provide CDs if necessary.

  • Escort / ID patients following hospital / departmental policy.

  • Transfer images to RIS/PACS.

  • Participate in annual PDA inspection as required.

  • Follow QC guidelines as required by FDA / ACR.

  • RIS / PACS Systems Access / Passwords:Requests systems access and security levels through Supervisor. Maintains confidential passwords for systems. Logs-in and -out of systems per department protocol. Adheres to proper RIS / PACS workflow as listed below when doing exams: Arrives patient in RIS.Begins exam in RIS.Selects exam from modality worklist or manually enter if worklist is not available. Makes sure exam matches information on RIS exam requisition. Performs exam at modality.Sends images to PACS.Verifies exam in PACS to ensure the exam is identified properly, markers are correct, and the correct number of images transferred from the modality. Scans documents into RIS and identifies correct document type. Correctly puts exam on the Radiologist Worklist for interpretation by completing exam in RIS including additional charge items such as contrast media, etc. RIS Exceptions and Unspecified Exams in PACS: Monitors exceptions on the bottom of Technologist worklist specific for department section.Is able to match up simple RIS exceptions with RIS exception
    handler. If RIS exception handler cannot be used and exams need to be matched up with PACS exam manager, promptly notifies a "Super-User" or Supervisor to complete PACS merges. Systems Issues / Request for System Help / After Hours - Weekend:Can identify non-urgent problems and completes the RIS/PACS Issue Reporting form in a timely manner. Can identify critical issues or issues that may delay patient care and promptly contacts the PACS Administrator or System Administrator. RIS Exceptions and Unspecified Exams in PACS: Monitors exceptions on the bottom of Technologist worklist specific for department section.Is able to match up simple RIS exceptions with RIS exception handler.If RIS exception handler cannot be used and exams need to be matched up with PACS exam manager, promptly notifies a "Super-User or Supervisor to complete PACS merges.   • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Certification program - Radiologic Technology

  • Experience - One (1) year experience preferred.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • Mammography certification or be eligible for certification by ARRT

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must organize and collect patient data as required by FDA / ACR and departmental policy.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills. Demonstrates self-direction in improving and acquiring the skills and abilities necessary to enhance job performance.

  • Use of mammography equipment, RIS/PACS, bone density, faxitron and Q.C. equipment.

  • Expected to have excellent manners and must represent facility in such a way that patients feel well cared for and would return to facility in future.

  • Expected to demonstrate proper telephone etiquette, and strong attention to detail.

  • Comfortable learning and working with new computer systems. Be able to meet or exceed patient satisfaction at all times.

  • Must be able to work independently. Must be able to interact with patients and staff in a courteous, professional manner.
