Job Description:

A Physical Failure Analysis Engineer is responsible for investigating, analyzing, and identifying the root causes of failures in semiconductor devices, electronic components, or systems. This role supports product reliability, quality assurance, and process improvement by performing hands-on analysis using advanced laboratory techniques and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct physical failure analysis on electronic components and semiconductor devices using techniques such as optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), focused ion beam (FIB), and X-ray analysis.
  • Document and report findings, including root cause identification and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with design, process, and reliability engineering teams to resolve product issues and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Prepare samples for analysis using mechanical and chemical methods (e.g., decapsulation, cross-sectioning, polishing).
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to failure analysis methodologies and tools

Requirements/Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or Extensive Experience in the field of Physical Failure Analysis

Skills & Experience:

  • Basic understanding of semiconductor device physics and electronic component construction.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and techniques used in physical failure analysis (e.g., SEM, FIB, X-ray, optical microscopy).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical data and failure analysis results.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
  • Experience with reliability testing or quality assurance is a plus (internships or academic projects count).
