The Camden City Attorney’s Office is seeking an Assistant City Attorney to join our team. The municipal law portfolio covers a wide variety of practice areas. As a member of our team, you can expect to handle multiple legal matters simultaneously. The day-to-day responsibilities for the Assistant City Attorney position include:
- Serve as a Municipal Prosecutor in Municipal Court.
- Provide legal representation to the City in judiciary and administrative proceedings, including trial and appellate work.
- Preparing pleadings, participating in the preparation of cases for litigation, coordinating with outside counsel, and negotiating the settlement of disputes.
- Advise City officials and agencies regarding government contracting, commercial contracting, municipal law, and related topics.
- Negotiate transactions and draft contracts.
- Draft and interpret City ordinances, rules and regulations, and charter requirements.
- Conduct and/or supervise legal research.
- Assist other attorneys working in specialized areas with research and other related activities.
- Prepare timely and appropriate responses to inquiries from the general public about public information and municipal regulations and procedures.
- Facilitate major property acquisitions for City projects, including title work, document preparation and condemnations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree from an ABA Accredited Law School.
- Admitted in good standing to practice Law in the State of New Jersey or able to obtain admittance within 1 year.
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in municipal law, tort litigation, criminal prosecution, or complex transactional law.
Preferred skills and qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience in municipal law, tort litigation, criminal prosecution, or complex transactional law.
- Significant trial experience in New Jersey a plus.
