WHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING

At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences-from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you'll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world's most important challenges-striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career.

THE ROLE:

As a member of the AMD Server Post-Silicon Debug Team, you will apply your strong understanding of CPU microarchitecture and silicon behavior to validate, debug, and characterize AMD's next-generation server processors. You will work hands-on in the lab to reproduce, isolate, and root-cause complex hardware and system-level issues that surface during bring-up and validation. Your work will directly influence silicon quality, performance, and time-to-market for AMD's Server CPU products.

THE PERSON:

You are detail-oriented, analytical, and thrive in a fast-paced lab environment. You possess a solid grasp of CPU architecture and SoC-level interactions, combined with strong debug and scripting skills. You enjoy getting hands-on with hardware, uncovering subtle silicon issues, and collaborating across teams to drive solutions. You are a creative problem solver who takes initiative, learns continuously, and is motivated by making AMD's products the best in the industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform post-silicon bring-up, validation, and debug on AMD Server CPUs and platforms.
  • Identify, root-cause, and drive resolution for functional, performance, and power-related silicon defects.
  • Work with design, verification, and firmware teams to analyze failures and improve pre-silicon validation coverage.
  • Develop and enhance debug automation scripts and tools to improve efficiency and reproducibility.
  • Execute and analyze system-level validation tests to ensure stability, reliability, and compliance with design specifications.
  • Characterize CPU features, power states, and performance across different operating conditions.
  • Document debug findings, create training materials, and communicate learnings across teams.
  • Support engineering builds and validation activities during early silicon bring-up phases.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (design, firmware, diagnostics, validation, and test) to enhance AMD's post-silicon debug infrastructure.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong understanding of CPU microarchitecture and x86 (or similar) instruction set architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with silicon bring-up, validation, and debugging hardware defects.
  • Experience working with low-level firmware, BIOS, and diagnostics in a lab environment.
  • Scripting and automation using Python and Bash for data analysis and test automation.
  • Familiarity with clocking, reset, and power sequencing in modern SoC designs.
  • Understanding of error detection and correction (ECC) mechanisms and reliability features.
  • Exposure to server architectures, Linux OS, and firmware interaction layers.
  • Experience with data analysis tools, debug log correlation, and failure triage.
  • Strong foundation in CPU and SoC architecture and system-level operation.
  • Proficiency in hardware debugging, root cause analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Experience with version control systems (Git) and debug data management.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks in parallel and deliver results in fast-paced debug cycles.
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in the lab.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science preferred.
