Description

The Department of Economics at Dartmouth College invites applications for an Economics Research Specialist, at the rank of postgraduate research associate, in the area(s) of finance, applied contract theory, industrial organization, development, and/or behavioral economics. The position will be to work on projects headed by Professors Apoorv Gupta and Jonathan Zinman.


Responsibilities include:



  • coding and analyzing large datasets using Python, R, and/or Stata;
  • supporting field experiment design and implementation;
  • supporting data acquisition strategies and implementation from various sources;
  • performing structural estimation;
  • conducting literature and market landscape reviews;
  • writing up results for presentations and publications; possibly also supporting survey design and implementation.


This opportunity is ideal for candidates seeking to develop their empirical and theoretical skills in preparation for pursuing a graduate program in economics or finance.


Economics Research Specialist (ERSs) will work with department faculty supporting and conducting scholarly research and teaching in anticipation of advancing their skills and experience to prepare for the next stage of their careers. ERSs are expected to contribute to all stages of research - including research design, literature searches, conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data and writing reports and papers. ERSs may also have the opportunity to contribute in the classroom or in laboratory sections of courses, helping undergraduate students with labs, review sessions, paper editing and grading certain assignments.


This position is full-time, non-remote, in-residence for the Department of Economics at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, with a start date as early as July 1, 2026. Appointments are typically for a 1-year period with the option of a 1-year extension. We pay a competitive salary of $60,000 per year and benefits.


ERSs who are working in residence in Hanover are eligible for Graduate Special Student status and the ability to take certain Dartmouth courses with the tuition paid by Dartmouth as a working condition fringe benefit. The benefit covers a maximum of 1 course per academic year the ERSs is employed at the College.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's in Economics or a related field, completed by the start of the appointment.
  • Strong motivation to learn
  • Attention to detail
  • Resourcefulness and strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong quantitative, data, and project management skills
  • Strong teamwork skills: ability to take initiative and/or direction, as needed
  • Facility with Stata, Python, R, or equivalent
  • Fluency and excellent communication skills in English
  • Knowledge of GIS software, and facility with structural models and estimation is preferable
  • A long-term interest in pursuing research related to economics and economic policy
  • An interest in pursuing a PhD in Economics
