Work Schedule: Full-time

Compensation: $35.81- $35.81/hr

Tessera is seeking a dependable and skilled Railroad Repairer to support safe and efficient rail operations at Naval Base Kitsap, Bangor. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining the reliability of military and contractor rail traffic by inspecting, repairing, and rebuilding track systems, switches, and crossings. Your work will directly contribute to mission readiness and logistics by ensuring that all rail infrastructure meets federal safety standards, military protocols, and operational requirements. From performing preventative maintenance and track alignment to responding to emergency situations caused by weather or operational incidents, you will help safeguard critical transportation routes.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect tracks, ties, ballast, and rail components for wear, damage, or misalignment.

  • Repair or replace rails, ties, spikes, switches, and other track components.

  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment such as tampers, grinders, and rail saws.

  • Perform track surfacing, alignment, and leveling to maintain safe operating conditions.

  • Clear debris and vegetation from track areas to ensure visibility and safety.

  • Assist with installation of new track sections and rail infrastructure.

  • Document maintenance activities and report unsafe conditions or needed repairs.

  • Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times.

  • Support emergency response and recovery efforts related to rail incidents or weather damage.

Qualifications:

  • Highschool Diploma/GED is required.

  • Conductor or Brakeman certification/license (preferred) and will be required within the first year. Minimum of 3 years' experience in Transportation and Rail or closely related field.

  • Knowledge of FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) safety regulations

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance.
