Primary Function The Grounds Equipment Maintenance Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a variety of groundskeeping equipment and small engines to ensure reliable operation and optimal performance. This role supports the grounds maintenance team by ensuring that all mowers, trimmers, blowers, utility vehicles, tractors, and other related tools and machinery are safe, efficient, and properly maintained. Essential Duties
- Perform preventive maintenance on all ground's equipment according to established schedules.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on small engines and turf equipment.
- Inspect equipment for safety hazards, wear, and damage; recommend repairs or replacements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair logs for each piece of equipment.
- Order and track parts, lubricants, and supplies as needed.
- Clean, adjust, and tune engines, carburetors, and other components to ensure efficient operation.
- Sharpen and balance mower blades, adjust cutting decks, and ensure proper alignment.
- Maintain shop organization, cleanliness, and safe working conditions.
- Assist grounds staff with equipment operation training and troubleshooting.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including the use of PPE and proper handling of fuels and chemicals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools, meters, and hand/power tools safely and effectively.
- Skilled in reading equipment manuals, schematics, and parts diagrams.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Commitment to workplace safety and preventive maintenance best practices.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to lift heavy material up to 70 pounds continuously and operate material handling equipment.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in an industrial maintenance environment.
- Welding skills preferred for fabricating shields, attachments, and brackets.
- Experience operating heavy equipment is advantageous.
- Must have own tools.
Working Environment

- Overtime may be required.
- Primarily outdoor and shop environment.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and mechanical hazards.
- Regular interaction with grounds crew and facility management staff.
