FEA Consulting Engineer

Company Description

The team members of Rand Simulation have a steeped history in helping organizations bring their product vision to reality through incorporating engineering simulation technology into the product development process. Rand Simulation operates as an Elite North American channel partner for Ansys (NASDAQ: ANSS) to further strengthen its collaborative consulting services while striving for the strongest customer value-add. In the first four years of operation, Rand Simulation has already been awarded the coveted title of Ansys Americas Channel Partner of the Year twice in the past 4 years, Ansys Elite channel partner, and is the fastest growing partner in North America

We are looking for a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation specialist with knowledge of ANSYS structural software packages. This is a remote position.

What will you be responsible for?

The Rand Simulation business model leverages a collaborative approach, combining the analysis expertise of our simulation engineers with the design expertise of our clients. Our goal as the simulation experts is to serve as an extension of our client's team-empowering impactful performance insight through simulation to drive informed design decisions and enabling long-term success through mentoring, onboarding, and scalable best practices.

You will be responsible for leveraging advanced engineering knowledge to support customers, drive adoption of Ansys structural tools, and collaborate with account managers on pre-sales, enablement, and consulting engagements that help customers achieve measurable return on their simulation investments.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical lead on customer engagements-including enablement programs, onboarding sessions, mentoring, and consulting projects-with responsibility for running simulations, reviewing designs, interpreting results, and recommending improvements based on findings and experience.
  • Stay up to date with Ansys platforms and expand knowledge through ongoing training and self-guided learning to broaden Rand Simulation's enablement and consulting capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with Rand Simulation's sales team to provide technical guidance, credibility, and subject-matter expertise in both pre-sales and post-sales engagements.
  • Analyze customer technical needs, infrastructure, and workflows to ensure an application fit and develop recommendations for both immediate and long-term simulation success.
  • Articulate the value of Ansys technology and Rand Simulation's services-including training, mentoring, and consulting-in helping customers achieve their design and productivity goals.
  • Partner with RandSim marketing to generate blog posts, white papers, webinars, and other content related to key initiatives for your team and customers.
  • Provide customized Ansys training and mentoring sessions that help customers improve simulation proficiency, increase productivity, and achieve early success with new tools.
  • Occasionally assist with technical support overflow and follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.

Who are we looking for?

  • M.S./B.S./B.A. in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Physics, or similar discipline
  • 4+ years of mechanical or structural engineering/design experience
  • 4+ years of FEA/structural analysis experience with Ansys Mechanical
  • LS-DYNA experience strongly desired
  • Experience with Ansys Motion, nCode, ACP, or other structural toolsets is a plus
  • Experience using Altair, FEMAP/NX, MSC/PATRAN, Autodesk Nastran, Simulation Mechanical/Algor, COMSOL, Abaqus, Simulia, or similar codes a plus
  • Proven experience with multiple structural analysis methods (rigid body dynamics, transient analyses, nonlinear static/transient, modal, linear dynamics, etc.)
  • Experience with multiphysics, fatigue, and explicit dynamics strongly desired
  • Experience with MAPDL and/or Python coding strongly desired
  • Knowledge of underlying FEA principles such as linear algebra, partial differential equations, etc.
  • Extensive proficiency in 3D CAD systems (Inventor and/or SolidWorks preferred)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead customer discussions, trainings, and webinars with confidence.
  • Logical problem-solving approach and ability to clearly communicate both technical and business value to customers.
  • Self-starter with high motivation, organization, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Comfort working directly with clients in both enablement and project contexts, articulating recommendations and guiding simulation strategy.
  • Highly developed learning and thinking ability with direct client-facing experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
