The Pharmacy Internal Auditor ensures the integrity of the controlled substance processes for Fred Hutch. The position monitors and evaluates the controls for the controlled substances and medication safety programs including, but not limited to, inventory management, system audits, appropriate documentation, compliance with policies and procedures regarding controlled substances, training of Pharmacists and Technicians, and compliance with State and Federal regulations.

This is a 1.0 FTE (40 Hours) role based out of our South Lake Union Campus.



Responsibilities

    Performs complex and unique duties within the pharmacy department
  • Interpret, evaluate, and summarize information and datasets of varying sizes
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with stakeholder inside and outside of pharmacy department
  • Develop and maintain internal (within Fred Hutch) and external relationships (such as vendors, payors, distributors)
  • Work independently and within teams to complete tasks
  • Documentation information or results in clear and concise ways
  • Generate and present reports of tasks to Pharmacy Operations Manager or Director of Pharmacy
  • Controlled substance (CS) audits: Performs CS record audits. Monitors dispenses from pharmacy locations to receipt. Audits patient records from order to administration. Ensures appropriate documentation including wastage. Responsible for the integrity of the controlled substance process from ordering of the drugs from the wholesaler, receipt and storage within the various pharmacies, distribution to the various clinical and patient care areas, and verification of administration and/or wastage. Continuously monitors the process for changes and modifies controls appropriately in response.
  • Collate and analyze data and quarterly presentation to UWMC/Fred Hutch Pharmacy Controlled Substance Committee.
  • Monitor for and follow-up on controlled drug discrepancies. Address compliance issues as identified. Ensure adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Monitor and audit compliance systems. Maintain knowledge of changing rules and regulations.
  • Oversee and perform controlled substance compliance education and training of new and existing pharmacy staff.
  • Controlled substance (CS) invoice verification: Reconciles CS invoices with pharmacy receiving records.
  • Controlled substance discrepancies: assist the Pyxis technician in researching and resolving controlled substance discrepancies. Work with nurse and clinic managers to resolve discrepancies in documentation compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Audit and track medication safety metrics as assign.


Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Washington state pharmacy technician certification.
  • 2 years pharmacy technician experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
  • Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical calculations
  • Ability to use a mouse, navigate computer programs, enter data into computer systems accurately and efficiently
  • Strong interpretation skills
  • Ability to implement audit processes to validate compliance
  • Strong training skills
  • Washington State Pharmacy Technician license
  • Coursework in a healthcare related field or bachelor's degree in a healthcare related field
  • Two years work experience monitoring and evaluating audit controls in a clinical setting (e.g., inpatient hospital, ambulatory clinic or pharmacy)

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Attention to detail and accuracy documentation of information
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a dynamic work environment
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Experience with electronic medical records[GK1]
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
  • Knowledge of computers and pharmacy technology and automation systems
  • Knowledge of the health care environment and electronic medical records
  • Data Analytics and/or Excel
  • Participate in professional pharmacy organizations
  • Promote an image of service and goodwill to the patients, public, and hospital staff
  • Perform other related tasks as required

Pre Employment Drug Screening:

As a condition of employment Fred Hutch conducts pre-employment drug testing for this pharmacy role. All offers of employment in the pharmacy department are conditional on the applicant successfully completing and passing a drug test in accordance with the Fred Hutch policy.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $27.01 to $38.45 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

This is a 1.0 FTE (40 Hours) role based out of our South Lake Union Campus.
