UCI Beall Applied Innovation's purpose is to measurably improve lives through access to UCI-developed knowledge. We partner with researchers and industry to move UCI knowledge and discoveries into products and markets. With this goal, we collaborate closely with faculty/researchers, industry, and entrepreneurs to carry out a variety of projects and programs with four pillars of BAI's teams: Research Translation, New Ventures, Enterprise Collaborations, and Industry Sponsored Research. BAI is currently located at UCI Research Park. Our physical building, known as The COVE, provides office space for BAI staff, offers sublease space for emerging UCI ecosystem partner start-ups, and is a venue for programs and events designed to foster university-industry collaboration.


Your Role on the Team

Under close supervision, the employee provides general maintenance and custodial support for Beall Applied Innovation (BAI) operations. Job duties include moving furniture to support subtenants and a busy event venue schedule. Other job duties include patching, painting, minor carpentry, fix-it work, performing preventive maintenance projects, minor furniture repairs, and other general maintenance tasks as assigned. The employee must demonstrate the ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Ability to read, write, give, and follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Demonstrated skill to do basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Demonstrated skill to communicate effectively and work well with students, staff, clients, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated mechanical ability.
  • Demonstrated skill in repairing building finishes, furniture, and small equipment.
  • Ability to operate a variety of power hand tools.
  • Ability to summarize work performed in writing.
  • Demonstrated skills to organize many tasks and determine priority.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks.
  • General knowledge of safety precautions in the use of equipment, chemicals, lifting, customer traffic, etc.
  • Can understand emergency preparation and response plan.
  • Demonstrated cleaning skills: sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, wall and window washing; overhead, bathroom, kitchen, office area, and other building surface cleaning.
  • Demonstrated ability to use cleaning equipment such as upright vacuums, mops and brooms, short ladders, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, ability to select appropriate chemical for the job, ability to mix and dilute chemicals appropriately, and handle chemicals safely.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand labels or instructions for cleaning solutions utilized in housekeeping.
  • Ability to move hundreds of pieces of furniture for events and subtenants on most days; repetitive motion is to be expected.
  • Broad range of semi-skilled maintenance tasks.

Preferred:

  • Ability to supervise the work of others, if needed.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.

Special Conditions:

  • Hours will be shared in advance, flexibility is required.
  • Hours include early mornings, nights, and weekends, depending on business operations during busy seasons, including occasional overtime assignments.
  • Schedule to be determined by management.
  • Workweek schedule is subject to change.
  • Must be able to work outside of regularly scheduled shift.
  • Must be able to wear PPE.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $24.20- $27.23 (Hourly).
