Expected Length of Internship:



  • 6 Months, preferably starting in January 2026.
  • As an internship company, we allow flexibility to enroll in classes while working as an intern, as long as it doesn't interfere with the essential functions of the position.


Education/Experience:



  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program (or higher) in polymer engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science engineering.
  • Chemistry or chemical engineering, particularly in polymer or organic chemistry.
  • Wet chemistry and any other chemical-related work experience would be a plus.
  • Materials Science & Engineering, particularly nano-materials or thin film synthesis.
  • photoresist polymer material and its application in semiconductor.
  • photoresist curing techniques.
  • Thin film characterization tool, e.g. AFM/DekTak/WDXRF/Ellipsometry/FTIR would be considered a plus.
  • First Solar encourages all interns to register with their university.


Required Skills/Competencies:



  • Polymer since and engineering, Organic and inorganic chemistry; Materials Science & Engineering; Characterization of thin-film.


Basic Internship Scope:



  • Carry out organic based solution experiments under supervisor's instruction.
  • Photoresist curing and polymerization.
  • Thin film coating experiments, e.g. spin coating; slot die coating; or inkjet coating.
  • Preparation of organic solvent based solutions and characterization.
  • Manual cutting of 10 cm X 10 cm glass coupons for materials analysis.
  • Conducting coating of thin films.
  • Recording the experimental parameters.
  • Conducting characterization of thin film on glass coupons, e.g. AFM/DekTak/UV-Vis etc..
  • Extracting and analyzing the results and summarizing into PPT format.
  • Project: perovskite solar cell development, more specifically perovskite thin film passivation, including physical Vapour deposition (PVD) of metal oxide film, and inkjet or slot-die coating of polymer based film onto glass substrates; Characterization of thin films made by wet coating. Low temperature thermal treatment of the films. This project mainly focus on wet coating method development. UV curing techniques.
  • Upon the completion of this internship, the intern is required to present their accomplishments and project summary to the leadership team.


Estimated Salary Range:



  • $18.00-$39.00 Hourly.


US Physical Requirements:



  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
  • Will lift, push or pull up to 37 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • 20/40 vision in both eyes together, with or without correction, is required.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards, and a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair) for those requiring respirator use.
