Principal Purpose of Position Responsible for preparing samples for analysis and performing a wide range of complex metallurgical services. This role requires thorough knowledge of specific testing areas and the ability to complete all testing independently. Key responsibilities include:
  • Conducting mechanical tests on specialized equipment (e.g., hardness, tension, tensile, resistivity).
  • Performing metallographic and magnetic tests using etchants, polishing tools, and specialized equipment.
  • Collecting and recording test data during evaluations and making recommendations based on findings.
  • Directing, training, and coordinating day-to-day activities within the Metallurgical Lab for the assigned testing area.
  • Developing knowledge of procedures in other testing areas and assisting as needed.
  • Completing other duties and special projects as assigned.
Work Areas: Mechanical Testing, Sample Preparation, Metallographic Testing, Magnetic Testing, or Heat Treating. Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience as determined by department management.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience.
Technical Expertise
  • Specialized knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and practices.
  • Proficiency in operating advanced metallurgical and laboratory equipment.
  • Fully proficient in applying technical skills across a range of activities; serves as a resource to others.
