POSITION SUMMARY



  • APQP Engineer works in conjunction with Program Management Teams responsible for the launch of manufacturing process that support new product launches. The APQP Engineer's primary role is to keep the quality expectations of the customer in front of the team as the launch is occurring to ensure that nothing is missed or lacking from a quality system standpoint when the new process is delivered to the manufacturing plant. The APQP Engineer plays a key role in submitting quality documentation to the customer and raising quality concerns up to the Manager New Product Quality. The APQP Engineer is knowledgeable about CMM reports, Checking Fixtures, and GD&T; using that knowledge to approve key deliverables pertaining to the production quality systems being developed. The APQP Engineer must work well within a team environment, as well as represent the company in front of the customer in a professional manner when required.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS



  • Completes all quality documents required by customer during the initial launch phases of a product leading up to PPAP
  • Leads the finalization of PFMEA(s) and Control Plans through Launch Process
  • Uploads of all quality support documentation into customer designated systems
  • Manufacturing plants compile final PPAP documentation, but APQP Engineer may be asked to support
  • Attend and approve Check Fixture design reviews, as requested
  • Aide in Deviation request preparations to the customer (w/QE support)
  • Reviews prints for best practice application of GD&T
  • Reviews prints for completeness (All specs, notes, etc.)
  • Attends Measurement Point Meetings with customer (w/QE support)
  • Attends run-off of tooling events on more critical projects as determined by the Manager, New Product Quality
  • Reviews tool shop and prototype CMM layouts as requested
  • Develops Part Containment Sheets through Launch Process
  • Ensures that Midway and Customer PPAP procedures and expectations are followed during new product launch and engineering changes. These individuals would be developed into subject matter experts for customer PPAP requirements to guide the program teams.
  • Supports the recording of Launch Lessons learned
  • Provides support with MPG manufacturing plant QC depts. for launches
  • Tracks quality levels from a weld validation and dimensional improvement standpoint as the tool progresses through the development process. (Typically done on few projects deemed critical by the Manager, New Product Quality)
  • Supports physical containment and rework activities as needed
  • Works with multiple program teams and therefore multiple customer quality systems and multiple projects
  • Understands the current work assigned to them and is able to prioritize the work by order of urgency and manage their own time accordingly
  • Perform other essential functions as assigned by the Manager New Product Quality


JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS



  • Four year college degree in a technical field of study or comparable work experience/training in the field of quality
  • Three years of experience preferred as a quality engineer or quality tech in the automotive stamping industry or a tier one company supplying the same
  • Competent communicator both verbal and written


SPECIAL SKILLS



  • Above average Microsoft Excel skills
  • Computer Skills (Databases, Word, Basic CAD viewer software, etc.)
  • Experience with Minitab is a plus
  • Above average internet/FTP/online skills (Uploading/downloading/researching/etc.)
  • Reads and Applies GD&T
  • PFMEA Creation
  • Reads and understands timing plans and Gantt charts
  • Experience with Ford, GM, or Toyota quality systems
  • Vehicle Program experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Weld inspection - must be able to tear-down/cut-&-etch welds and determine quality level


WORKING CONDITIONS



  • Normal office environment
  • Normal shop environment, which includes travel to plant sites; use of personal protection equipment; hazards and conditions typically associated with a manufacturing environment
  • Occasionally required to perform plant operations and tasks, i.e., lifting of parts, subassemblies and equipment operation
