Summary
Responsible for providing specialized support in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of orthopedic conditions under the direction of the orthopedic surgeon. Train other employees, ensuring that patient care is delivered accurately and efficiently. Assists in the application of casts, braces, splints, and other orthopedic devices, and may also assist in surgical procedures. Under the direction and supervision of the site Administrative Manager and Orthopedic Technician Manager, this position is responsible for providing orthopedic services to patients, including casting, splinting and the fitting of durable medical equipment. In addition, this position is responsible for managing all activities associated with a durable medical equipment program including: gathering necessary paperwork to facilitate billing, utilizing a DME software system to manage authorization checks, collecting payments at the time of service as needed and inventory management. This position is primarily located in Foxboro, MA; however, travel to other sites (i.e Boston, Waltham) might be required at times. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions -Applies knowledge and skills of cast application, traction set-up and maintenance in carrying out designated responsibilities -Acts as a resource where expertise is requested in orthopedic devices; may train and provide guidance to other orthopedic technicians -Plans, implements, and monitors appropriate spending and budget for orthopedic supplies and equipment. -Collaborates with physicians and nurses regarding the impact of practice or cost and utilization of orthopedic equipment and supplies. -Collaborates with clinical staff on a ongoing basis regarding orthopedic quality improvement activities and orthopedic improvement. -Identifies critical indicators which will be used to monitor and evaluate quality. -Prepares and knows the specific uses of all equipment and supplies used for orthopedic procedures. Education Minimum of four years experience as an orthopaedic technician Experience as a Medical Assistant a plus Physical Requirements
