Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Water and Wastewater Project Engineer based in Chicago, IL who will work on complex projects that involve innovative process engineering design and implementation. This includes evaluating, testing, designing, and implementing water and wastewater treatment systems, as well as providing support for permitting and construction. In this role, you will also support project management, taking on tasks or managing projects based on your experience and the specific scope of work. Additionally, you will help expand our practice in the region by participating in business development efforts including attending conferences, visiting clients, and assisting in proposal development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Performing and overseeing detailed water/wastewater process engineering design;
  • Applying innovative treatment processes for mitigating polluting contaminants, including emerging contaminants;
  • Developing report plans for sampling, feasibility study, and design basis;
  • Developing technical reports, including feasibility studies and treatment process evaluation;
  • Developing engineer's cost estimate analysis for treatment systems;
  • Performing permitting support with local, regional, and national permitting agencies;
  • Developing construction documents, including bid forms and technical specifications;
  • Field investigations and construction support services;
  • Directing multi-disciplinary project teams, including internal and external;
  • Interacting with client representatives and regulatory representatives;
  • Task and project-level responsibility for scoping, performing, managing, and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments;
  • Consistent with our sell-manage-do business model, play a role supporting lead generation, business development, staff development, and mentoring;
  • Help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences;

  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, environmental, or civil engineering, with emphasis on process engineering or closely related discipline. (required)
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in chemical, environmental, or civil engineering, with emphasis on process engineering or closely related discipline. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E.). (preferred; required within three years of hire)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 7 years (8+ preferred) of related engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience with modeling and design software tools such as InfoWater, WaterGEMS, WaterCAD, GPS-X, Biowin, and AutoCAD. (preferred)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $107,160/year / Maximum Salary: $172,530/year (Chicago, IL)
