Job Summary
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of the daily operations and clinical practice of assigned patient care areas to provide quality, individualized patient care and support of Medical Center philosophies.
This position will support our Spine and Sports Medicine Clinics.
The Nurse Manager will lead staff to model a professional practice environment by providing a clinically competent staff; encouraging strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication; supporting autonomy and accountability; providing staff opportunities for in-service and formal education; stressing the importance of continuous learning; and supporting a culture where concern for the patient is paramount.
The Nurse Manager supports research, participates in both long- and short-term strategic planning, and assures patient advocacy. The Nurse Manager is accountable to the Practice Manager and Director of Ambulatory Nursing Practice. The Nurse Manager will collaborate with the Physician Medical Director and Practice Manager on work flows, program development, and patient experience. Department Overview Spine Center department at UC Davis Medical Center provides care to adult and pediatric patients with a variety of medical surgical and/or ambulatory needs. The UC Davis Spine Center provides patients with an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to spine wellness. Patients are cared for by nationally recognized faculty physicians who utilize leading-edge facilities and technologies to treat patients. Supported by our compassionate, specialized advanced practice providers and our professional patient services team. Our UC Davis neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, pain medicine physicians, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, and radiologists work together as a team to create individualized short- and long-term care plans for each patient. - Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
- American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and a Master's degree in nursing or other related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree (in a field other than nursing) paired with a Masters of Science degree in Nursing is accepted.
- At least three (3) years of (RN) nursing management or supervisor experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of (RN) nursing experience
- In depth clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology. Familiar with the policies, best practices, and standards involved with effective clinic / center administration. In-depth knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services.
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines.
- Excellent leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives.
- Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.
- Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
- Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned area
- Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice
- Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty area
- Demonstrates a commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.

- Excellent skills in all aspects of successfully directing clinic / center patient care and / or clinic operations including developing strategic plans, creating benchmarks, integrating programs and functions, and fiscal management.
- Strong knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned area
- Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice
- Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty area

- Knowledge of pathophysiology and nursing processes to make independent clinical decisions and provide clinical leadership within the department.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Spine, MSK, Ortho, Neuro.
- American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS Certification.
- American Heart Association (AHA) PALS Certification
- AMB-BC, NE-BC, or NEA-BC certification
- Experience and knowledge of the MSK specialty
- Recent experience in a surgical clinic setting.
