The Intelligence Production Solutions Division (IPSD), part of the Decision Advantage Solutions Business Area, is currently seeking a highly motivated Junior Software Engineer for the Chinook Program. The Chinook Program delivers next-generation, mission-focused software solutions for geospatial intelligence (GEOINT). This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful national security work while building experience with modern software tools, agile practices, and classified cloud environments.

As a Junior Software Engineer, you will work as part of an agile development team to help design, implement, test, and deploy applications and services. You will receive mentorship from senior engineers while supporting the development of systems that enhance our customer's data access, visualization, and dissemination capabilities.

Position may be performed in the following locations below. Please note Gaithersburg, MD is the program's primary work location.

Clearance Level Required:

Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI), as well as a Polygraph.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, development, testing, and maintenance of mission applications and services.

  • Write clean, maintainable code using modern languages and frameworks.

  • Participate in agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and team code reviews.

  • Contribute to the development and deployment of containerized applications in AWS GovCloud or C2S.

  • Learn and apply DevSecOps practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and secure coding.

  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, and stakeholders to translate mission needs into technical solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • US citizenship is required per contract.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field and 2-4 years of prior relevant experience or Master's with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience. Relevant experience or technical bootcamp may be considered in lieu of a 4-year degree.

  • Hands-on experience with the following technologies:

    • Web: HTML, CSS, Django, JSON, JQuery, Ajax, and REST APIs

    • Object-oriented Programming:Python, Java, or JavaScript

    • Front-end and Back-end Frameworks: React, Angular, Vue.js, jQuery, Spring Boot, Django, Node.js, Flask, or Svelte

    • Relational Database:MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server

    • Operating System: Windows, Linux

    • Version Control System:Git

  • Eagerness to learn secure coding practices and work in a classified cloud environment.

  • Understanding of modern software design patterns and coding standards.

  • Experience delivering complex software systems into production.

  • Working knowledge of Agile development and continuous integration/continuous delivery methodologies and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, and Docker.

  • Strong, self-motivated desire to learn new programming languages, tools, frameworks, and techniques.

  • Ability to complete tasking independently with minimal direct supervision.

  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplined engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cloud Development: AWS, Azure, or similar cloud platforms

  • Frontend Web Development: UI/UX

  • NoSQL Database: OpenSearch/Elasticsearch.

  • Cloud Exposure:

    • GovCloud or C2S

    • Multi-cloud architectures: AWS, IBM, Google, Azure, and Oracle.

    • Specific AWS Services:S3, SQS, SNS, EC2, CloudFormation and RDS.

  • Interest in geospatial tools and data (e.g., GeoJSON, Leaflet, PostGIS, ESRI).

  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Developer or similar.
