FELLOWSHIP PROFILE

The Chicago Council on Global Affairs is host to the Marshall M. Bouton Fellow for Asia Studies. The fellow will contribute individual research expertise work to strengthen the Council's research, thought leadership, publications, and convenings on Asia. This fellowship was established by the Chicago Council board of directors in 2013 in recognition of Marshall M. Bouton, who served as Council president from 2001 to 2013.

SUMMARY

The Marshall M. Bouton Fellowship for Asia Studies is a 2-year fellowship opportunity for a scholar, senior policymaker, policy analyst, or public intellectual who will make a significant contribution to the study of the international relations of Asia. The Fellow may bring experience from academia, think tanks, government, or other relevant sectors. The Fellow will work with the President, and the Lester Crown Center leadership and Senior Research Fellows (including non-resident fellows) to develop globally relevant and locally significant research.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  Work with the Council President and Senior Research team to build the Council's work on Asia.

  
  

• 
  

  Develop and deliver policy-relevant research on the international relations of Asia, especially China or India, with a focus on regional order, international security, and/or international economic policy.

  
  

• 
  

  Play a leading role in conceiving and shaping research led convenings on Asia's role in the world for expert and membership audiences. Work with programming team and non-resident fellows to shape the Council's influence and impact on Asia.

  
  

• 
  

  Contribute commentary via broadcast, print, digital, and social media in response to news developments.

  
  

• 
  

  Increase the Council's visibility by engaging with the national and international expert community and identifying and delivering meaningful partnerships.

  
  

FELLOWHIP'S FORMAT

  Fellow must reside in the Chicago area, if full time.

  May be full time employee resident in Chicago area, or part time (2 days/week) non-resident senior fellow, but with an active and very regular presence in Chicago.

  
  

SELECTION CRITERIA

  Advanced degree in a related field

  Portfolio including research expertise, research led convening and research led fundraising

  Demonstrated interest and expertise on Asia, preferably China or India, and knowledgeable and expert on global affairs more generally.

  Capacity to provide insights on Asia that are relevant to a diverse array of stakeholders in Chicago, as well as expert foreign policy communities beyond Chicago.

  Superior verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts and topics clearly, thoroughly, and succinctly

  Initiative and the ability to work effectively, collaboratively, inclusively, and efficiently in a fast-paced, demanding environment with changing and sometimes conflicting priorities

  
  

Salary Range: $90,000-$100,000

The pay range included represents a good faith estimate of the possible full-time compensation offer for this role at the time of posting.
