The Role

The Senior Manager of Facilities and Maintenance is responsible for leading all maintenance and facilities operations in a 24/7 high-speed medical device manufacturing environment. This role ensures optimal equipment reliability, facility uptime, and regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement initiatives focused on preventive maintenance (PM) effectiveness, unplanned downtime reduction, and total cost of ownership optimization. The ideal candidate is a strategic yet hands-on leader who can develop technical talent, implement data-driven maintenance programs, and champion operational excellence aligned with FDA and ISO 13485 standards.

This position will be onsite in Rochester, NY.

The Responsibilities
  • Build a culture of accountability, proactive maintenance and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality to align maintenance activities with production goals and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and execute a long-term maintenance and facilities strategy to improve reliability, safety, and compliance.

  • Oversee building systems, utilities, HVAC, compressed air, and water.

  • Plan and manage facility upgrades, expansions, and infrastructure improvement projects.

  • Ensure PM plans are risk-based, effective, and continuously improved based on performance data.

  • Use OEE and downtime data analytics to identify chronic equipment issues, drive root cause elimination and reduce unplanned downtime.

  • Lead Kaizen events and continuous improvement projects targeting equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and cost reduction.

  • Ensure all facility and maintenance operations meet regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred). Directly applicable experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • 10+ years of maintenance experience in a high-speed, automated manufacturing environment (medical device, pharmaceutical, or electronics preferred) with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
  • Strong background in continuous improvement and structured problem solving.
  • Working knowledge of FDA, ISO 13485, and GMP requirements.
  • Required Travel Less than 5%

Preferred:

  • Experience leading a team across a 24x7 operation

  • Strong background in reliability engineering, CMMS implementation, and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance)

  • Working knowledge in automation technologies (PLC, robotics, vision systems, MES).

The work environment characteristics are representative of a manufacturing, laboratory, or warehouse environment.

Physical Demands

Position requires handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues, and samples. Up to 75% of the time you will be, standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines. 10% travel overall (including International) but could require up to 50% travel for short durations during commissioning of new equipment at suppliers

Salary Transparency

Salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including: education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on that facts and circumstances of each case. Salary range for this position is $128,000 to $218,000 and is bonus eligible. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time) and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
