Employee Type: Co-op (Trainee) This program is designed for students currently pursuing an associate or technical degree, who have completed a portion of their curriculum, and will be completing their program after the coop/intern experience. It is not designed for graduates. Job Description: 3-month positions (May 2026 through August 2026) 8-month positions (May 2026 through December 2026) Duties/Tasks: Duties at the surface coal mine will be wide and varied, based on needs of the operation. These duties may include all or some of the following: Assist with troubleshooting, routine maintenance and repairs of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Perform preventative maintenance on draglines, coal shovels and facilities. Read and understand blueprints with the ability to assemble and fabricate parts from them. Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations. Other duties as assigned. Applicants will be trained to operate a boom truck, welding truck, forklift and other support equipment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful applicant should have a working knowledge of all phases of welding, cutting, air arcing, grinding, and an understanding of metal properties. Applicants need to have a valid driver's license, be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and will work rotating shifts. Educational Requirements: Enrolled in accredited welding or mechanical maintenance program and in good academic standing.
