Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated, strategic, and client-focused Employee Benefits Account Executive to join our Indianapolis, IN office. This individual will serve as the primary point of contact, quarterbacking the internal service team to ensure client satisfaction, successful renewals, and long-term retention. This is not a traditional Account Manager role-our ideal candidate brings consultative expertise, proactive problem-solving, and executive presence to every interaction.
Experience and Skills
Essential Responsibilities Client Leadership
- Act as the strategic advisor and relationship owner for a defined book of business.
- Lead and execute renewal strategy, presenting cost containment and benefit design recommendations to clients.
- Deliver proactive, year-round client communication to ensure satisfaction, compliance, and program alignment.
- Conduct client stewardship meetings, open enrollment meetings, and strategy sessions.
Internal Team Leadership
- Serve as the internal team lead-delegate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure all client deliverables are executed accurately and on time.
- Provide coaching and oversight to Account Managers and other support staff.
- Coordinate with Producers to maintain strong communication and client strategy alignment post-sale.
Carrier and Vendor Management
- Negotiate plan designs and rates with carriers and vendors on behalf of clients.
- Manage and maintain strong relationships with carrier representatives.
- Review carrier agreements, contracts, and plan documents for accuracy and compliance.
Compliance and Technical Expertise
- Stay current on applicable laws (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, etc.) and advise clients accordingly.
- Ensure client benefits programs are compliant and support clients through audits or legal inquiries.
- Use benchmarking and financial reporting to inform strategic decisions.
Business Growth
- Identify cross-sell and upsell opportunities within existing accounts.
- Support Producers in finalist presentations and prospect meetings, as needed.
- Champion innovation, operational improvements, and strategic initiatives to continuously elevate the client experience.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, HR, or related field preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in employee benefits account management or consulting, including large group and self-funded experience.
- Active Life and Health Insurance License (required).
- Professional designation(s) preferred (CEBS, GBA, RHU, REBC, etc.).
Skills & Attributes
- Strong executive presence with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex client relationships and internal teams.
- Deep knowledge of benefits products (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, voluntary), funding arrangements, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities with precision, professionalism, and poise.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and agency management systems (e.g., Benelinx, Zywave, etc.).
