Description

The Adult Education Transition Specialist will be responsible for the transitioning of adult education students to higher education or the workforce. The Transition Specialist with meet 1-on-1, and in small groups with students to ensure their needs and goals are met.


Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Meet 1-on-1 and in small groups with students to determine their needs and goals. Follow-up periodically to gauge additional needs and progress toward goals.
  2. Refer students to appropriate college and community based services and agencies.
  3. Advise students on job-related skills, such as resume building, mock interviews, job hunting, etc.
  4. Prepare student to transition to higher education and employment.
  5. Assist with assessment of students.
  6. Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop pathways for adult students.
  7. Collaborate with the college and other Adult Education staff to develop individualized educational plans.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Experience Requirements:
  • Experience working with adult students, working within grant guidelines, individual and small group casework, word processing, spreadsheet, database experience, experience learning and applying new concepts independently, organized..

Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with grant-funded programs, good presentation skills, understanding of local support resources.

Skills:
  • Interpersonal skills, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet and general computer skills.

Personal Requirements:
  • Outgoing person who works well with others, manage multiple tasks and independently meets deadlines. Detail oriented, self-starter who enjoys working with diverse groups. Demonstrated ability to work independently, work as part of a team and have flexibility in working in diverse settings. Able to have interpersonal conversations with students while also identifying student needs/wants/goals. Networking skills to connect to local resources and agencies.
