IC CONNECTOR ENGINEER

THE ROLE:

AMD is driving innovation at the intersection of performance and efficiency to shape the future of AI, cloud computing, and high-performance servers. As an IC Connector Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in enabling next-generation platforms by designing and developing high-speed connectors, cables, and sockets for advanced servers and AI systems. This position combines deep technical expertise with program leadership to deliver reliable, scalable, and cost-effective solutions. KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Lead the design and production release of next-generation high-speed connectors, cables, and sockets for high-volume products.
  • Develop advanced socket and connector solutions for emerging packaging technologies and rack-scale infrastructure.
  • Perform engineering evaluations, lab testing, and reliability assessments on new designs and contact technologies to ensure long-term performance.
  • Oversee test package and board design, procurement, and evaluation processes.
  • Manage development programs across multiple suppliers to build a robust and collaborative ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize connector and socket interactions across package, board, and rack for maximum performance and cost efficiency.
  • Create and maintain technical specifications, BOMs, and assembly instructions for manufacturing readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards for connector reliability and qualification processes.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Mastery of connector, cable, and socket technologies, including high-volume manufacturing.
  • Proven ability to lead connector-cable and socket development projects independently.
  • Expertise in mechanical tolerance analysis using RSS/Monte Carlo methods.
  • Strong knowledge of connector reliability standards and qualification processes.
  • Hands-on experience with connector/cable/socket testing and failure analysis of separable interfaces and solder joints.
  • Familiarity with contact metallurgy, metal finishes, and root cause analysis for socket, connector, and cable failures.
  • Basic understanding of signal integrity and systems engineering principles related to connectors and sockets, including VNA measurements.
  • Experience working with suppliers and managing development programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to create technical documents and presentations.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, LabVIEW, MATLAB, JMP, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; structural FEA expertise is a plus.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • BS/MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, or Integrated Systems Engineering (Ph.D. preferred)
