Description

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Lending Leader to join our team! This position will mentor, coach and train behaviors to improve and increase the quantity and quality of loan applications and resulting balances for the banking centers assigned. Coach and train cross-selling skills including mining the credit bureau report and promoting other bank products and services. Train and provide additional support for product knowledge, document preparation and review, policies, procedures, regulatory compliance and proper loan closing skills. Extend credit to existing client base and prospects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Meet and exceed consumer lending targets for assigned banking centers through coaching, training and mentoring bankers in addition to individual production.
  • Review performance reports and progress to goal information regularly with Market Leaders and Banking Center Managers to identify gaps and build plans to close those gaps.
  • Demonstrate and coach consistent delivery of the First Merchants experience. This includes proactively identifying needs and recommending solutions to improve the client's financial position.
  • Work closely with banking center sales teams to ensure exceptional customer service, quality originations and compliance with policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Monitor the marketplace to stay current on competitor offerings and pricing. Provide input regarding product competiveness, pricing or performance gaps.
  • Make regular visits to assigned banking centers to participate in and improve the effectiveness of sales meetings, sales techniques and skills, and effective use of technology. Provide constructive feedback through on-the-spot coaching.
  • Demonstrate and coach appropriate customer counseling skills.
  • Identify training needs and gaps. Work with Senior Lending Leader, Lending Sales Manager and/or Human Resources to develop and deliver training programs to close those gaps.


To be successful in this position, we require the following:



  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of sales, management, banking, or related experience including serving in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • This position requires S.A.F.E Act registration at the time of employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS). Employees hired or transferring into this position will need to meet the qualification requirements within three (3) months of hire.


The following would be a plus:



  • Associate or bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of five (5) years sales, management, banking, or related experience capacity with a focus in consumer lending.
