Performs a variety of duties to process retail sales and cacffrcccsh register transactions within an assigned retail cafeteria. Operates cash register and peripheral equipment using departmental cash handling procedures to provide excellent service to customers. Ensures positive interaction by acknowledging, greeting, and thanking every customer. Registers sales with customers on all cash and charge sales and obtains payment for item purchases adhering to customer service scripts. Counts cash drawer with manager adhering to proper cash handling procedures. Assists in the maintenance and set-up of dining room and food service areas as assigned. Demonstrates knowledge of updated cafeteria products and prices. All tasks are performed under direct supervision, according to departmental procedures and specific task assignments. (Up to 20 points within the Responsibilities Section may be reallocated based upon the actual task assignments performed by an employee during the review period.) Demonstrates outstanding customer service and the Key Behaviors outlined in the Hospital's Core Success Factors in all interactions.

Responsibilities
- 1. CASH REGISTER - Following established procedures, operates computerized cash register with peripheral equipment (e.g. scale) to calculate the total cost of food and/or beverage items purchased. Accurately handles cash, makes change, and/or processes charge transactions as required. Maintains cash register to keep running at a minimum of 2 customers per minute. Provides excellent service to customers; ensures positive interaction by acknowledging, greeting, and thanking every customer; and demonstrates proper service recovery protocol, as necessary.
- 2. CASH HANDLING - Verifies cash drawer impress fund. Maintains property security of cash at all times. Verifies monies, voids and charges sales with supervisor at end of shift.
- 3. CAFETERIA PRODUCTS - Develops and maintains basic knowledge of retail food and beverage items sold within the cafeteria, the price of items, and location. Answers routine customer questions regarding food and beverage items, and cash and charge transactions.
- 4. FOOD SERVICE PREP - As assigned, sets up equipment and supplies needed Assists in maintaining a well-stocked and clean condiment area to ensure cafeteria patrons receive all the necessary trays, condiments and utensils for a pleasant dining experience. Empties trash receptacles in work area.
- 5. SANITATION AND PERSONAL HYGIENE - Consistently follows established sanitation and personal hygiene guidelines to help prevent the spread of food borne illness. Maintains a clean and neat work area by adhering to the -clean as you go- policy. Proper hand washing techniques are followed at all times. Cleans and sanitizes all equipment prior to use according to standard procedures. Uses and stores cleaning agents properly.
Qualifications
EDUCATION High School Graduate or equivalent. Understanding of basic dietary principles is preferred. Successful completion of all 10 modules of Customer Service Training required. EXPERIENCE Six months of Food & Nutrition experience, preferably within a hospital setting SPECIAL SKILLS Must have a demonstrated ability to read, write and understand English; legible handwriting. Must have demonstrated outstanding interpersonal/customer relations skills. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and utilize independent judgment and problem solving when needed. Ability to operate a computerized cash register, to secure and handle cash, to sort, check, count, and verify numbers. Knowledge of basic cash management procedures, of customer service standards and procedures. Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies. PHYSICAL DEMAND Light to moderate physical activity, requires ability to stand and walk more than 4 hours per day, with ability to lift, push and pull carts, pallets and food supplies (frequently up to 30 pounds and/or continuously up to 10 pounds). Work environment involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises which require following basic safety precautions; and, working with cleaning chemicals requiring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE's) provided.
