Job Description: AMA is seeking a Scientific Photographer III to provide photo/video support for JSC Imagery Acquisition Group in support of the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency's enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications through the use of the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA's Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM). From photographing rocket launches and recoveries to producing engaging videos, to information technology management, to using social media to share NASA's message, eMITS integrates services for NASA IT and provides NASA's communication to the outside world. This position is for a Scientific Photographer tasked with capturing still photography and video of a variety of flight hardware, engineering tests, personnel, and other subjects and events of importance to NASA's human space flight effort. Provide professional imagery acquisition through the utilization of multiple camera systems, primarily Nikon Z9 and D6, Hasselblad H and X systems, Canon XF705, and GoPro's. Operate camera system for aerial drone vehicle. Additional duties include working with Speedotron Black Line lighting systems, Profoto, Nikon Speedlights, Nila LED lights, Lite Panel LED lights, Nanlites and various lighting accessories. Salary range: $62,026-$71,330 Responsibilities include:
The position requires work under various conditions, including in the studio, in engineering labs, outdoors, in confined spaces, high platform locations, in environments requiring respirator protection or air-breathing systems, on remote field locations, aboard various NASA vehicles, helicopters, and locations. This position requires the ability to work in a team environment with engineers, researchers, astronauts, video & photo lab personnel and fellow staff photographers. Team responsibilities include assisting other photographers, contributing to team projects, assisting with office duties including project planning, scheduling, equipment maintenance and inventory. Must be a U.S. citizen and have a current valid U.S. passport. Must be able to pass a National Agency Check (NAC) security clearance. Must have a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in photography/video or related imaging field from an accredited University or Technical Institute. Education should include use of computers for photographic applications, portraiture, creative photography, scientific photography, time lapse. Knowledge and experience with DSLR and medium format digital cameras, HD and 4K digital video cameras, cinematography techniques, digital video recorders, audio, light meters, color temperature meters, motion control systems, remote control systems, flash lighting systems and LED lights is required. Must provide a high degree of technical and creative capability, artistic vision, independent judgment, and ability to cooperate with company and non-company personnel in the selection and use of camera systems, digital formats, lights, and associated computers systems. Must be detail oriented, keep accurate scientific data and perform basic mathematical calculations for problem solving. Must communicate in a friendly and professional manner with NASA personnel, follow Government protocol standards, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work well with customers, management and fellow employees at all levels in a team environment. Familiarization with working in a scientific and engineering environment desired. Must be able to pass an U.S. Air Force Flying Class III medical examination and medical criteria for flight and water operations. Must be able to physically lift and/or carry 50lbs. of equipment on a regular basis and work in extreme environments. Ability to travel to remote locations in relatively short notice including various NASA field centers in the U.S. and international partner facilities outside the country. Adherence to quality control, safety, operations, administrative and security procedures including reporting will be required. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, OneDrive), SharePoint, and Box.
