A Brief Overview
Under the direction of the Radiology Manager and Diagnostic Team Leader, performs a variety of intermediate diagnostic procedures with technical expertise and competency. The incumbent must understand the daily operations of all radiographic equipment and departmental flow in order to obtain optimal imaging and patient care for diagnosis and measure of illness.

What you will do

  • Performs and assists in various intermediate diagnostic procedures that produce optimal imaging with diagnostic quality according to the department's policy and procedures:
  • Follows standards for routine diagnostic exams, positioning, patient care and documentation as prescribed in the procedure manual set forth by the imaging department.
  • Provide optimal diagnostic imaging and radiation safety for the purpose of diagnostic interpretation.
  • Selects the appropriate technical factors, safety devices, and operates all imaging equipment as directed.
  • Assists with orienting and training all radiology students and new employees.
  • Maintains constant attention to patient.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Identifies, processes, transfers and archives all patient exams. Maintains all records in accordance with Hospital and Regulatory policies:
  • Responsible for proper identification on all exam records and images including patient demographics.
  • Maintains all HIPAA regulations and policies regarding patient information.
  • Maintains appropriate records of patient examinations.
  • Maintains the integrity and security of the Radiology Information System and all other Hospital computer systems.
  • Adheres to federal and state radiation safety guidelines and regulations regarding patient and operator protection, collimation, and shielding:
  • Ensures dosimeter badge is worn while incumbent is working in the imaging department.
  • Document and record the (DAP) Dose Area Product.
  • Provide radiation protection in accordance with all safety standards and the principle of ALARA to ensure the well-being of patients, hospital personnel, and the general public while performing any duties.
  • Professionalism:
  • Refers to the Diagnostic Team Leader any complex problems and/or issues.
  • Encouraged to participate in continuing education and self-development.
  • Participates in the formal in-service program governed by the Radiology Department.
  • Subject to covering on-call for holidays and other shifts as assigned.
  • Continuing Education:
  • Complete all hospital and Radiology Department mandatory education required annually.
  • Engage in continuing education activities to maintain credits for ARRT compliance.
  • Completes training and in-services presentations required for the Radiology Department.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • Technical Diploma Radiology Program Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years relevant experience Required
  • pediatric experience Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Radiography - American Registry for Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) - upon hire - Required and
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 12 months - Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of all forms of diagnostic imaging (Required proficiency)
  • Intermediate knowledge of specific/cross trained area(s) (Required proficiency)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Radiology Information System (Required proficiency)
  • Able to handle multiple tasks (Required proficiency)
  • Good organizational skills (Required proficiency)
  • Good phone etiquette and communication skills (Required proficiency)
  • Promotes Family Centered Care Philosophy (Required proficiency)
  • Age Specific Considerations (Required proficiency)
  • Responsible for maintaining the continuing education required for this position (Required proficiency)
  • Complete all hospital and Radiology Department mandatory education required annually (Required proficiency)
  • Obtains at least 12 CE credits/year for ARRT Compliance (6 CE credits of which are offered through CHOP Radiology initiatives) (Required proficiency)
  • Completes training and in-services presentations required for the Radiology Department (Required proficiency)
