Overview
Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This position will be located at NASA's Langley Research Center.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a hardworking, dependable person who wants to be a part of our Amentum Maintenance Services team.
This work will include identification of repeated causes of failure in support of root cause failure analysis and equipment lifecycle assessments (to include nameplate data verification and failure reporting), as well as equipment/system field verification. Shall follow safety policies and procedures and perform all work according to existing policies and procedures while maintaining a high standard of quality and workmanship in performing the duties. Working knowledge of safety practices common to industry including FOD control and LOTO (OSHA Lockout/Tagout program) is an added advantage.
Technician provides hands-on technical support for equipment reliability, preventive and predictive maintenance activities. This role assists engineers with data collection, troubleshooting, inspections, and implementation of reliability improvements across mechanical systems and facility equipment.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be trained in OSHA LOTO responsibilities and become qualified as a LOTO authorized person.
- Perform field inspections on mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, HVAC systems, rotating equipment, and test facility components.
- Experience in operating and maintaining electrical distribution systems and/or control circuitry is desirable. Will perform field verification of equipment information as well as failure reporting and other reliability related tasks.
- Update MAXIMO with equipment histories, work order data, condition monitoring results, and corrective actions.
- Support development and improvement of job plans, PM tasks, and reliability procedures.
- Help standardize mechanical maintenance practices and ensure they align with reliability goals.
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and post-maintenance testing of mechanical equipment as directed by engineering.
- Support repairs and document findings for engineer review.
- Provide feedback to engineering on chronic equipment issues, gaps in PM tasks, or needs for improved procedures.
- Prepare basic technical summaries, field notes, and photographs to support engineering documentation and reports.
- Experience in operating and maintaining rotating machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic system, pumps, valves and cooling water systems is desirable.
- Other equipment operated on includes but is not limited to, industrial forklifts, man-lifts and cranes.
- Perform preventive maintenance on, inspection of, and operate equipment per documented procedures.
- Must be able to read relevant technical drawings and specifications.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required. Two (2) years of college with courses in engineering, mathematics or science, and two (2) years relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of relevant education/experience for a total of four (4) years.
Relevant military training or aviation maintenance training is a plus.

Work Environment
Office Environment (20%). Test/Industrial Environment - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, high energy sources, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities. (75%). Travel between facilities and during test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment and chemical operations (5%)
Physical Requirements
Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required (50%). Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like (20%). Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (30%).
Equipment and Machines
Facility operations display/keyboards/mechanical/electrical control/HMI, standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (30%)
Operate appropriate equipment; devices, fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products, such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servo systems, machine tools, and measuring instruments. Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization and quality control.
