Job Summary

The Child Trauma Research Program (CTRP) Psychologist, full-time position within CTRP, a clinical research program at Child and Adolescent Psychiatry within UCSF's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DPBS).

The Psychologist will provide direct therapy services and support CTRP's national and local efforts to enhance trauma-informed systems of care in early childhood mental health settings. More specifically, the Psychologist will: 1) provide Child-Parent Psychotherapy and/or Perinatal Child-Parent Psychotherapy to pregnant people or families with children under age six; 2) function as trainer and facilitator for local and national audiences on a variety of topics such as trauma-informed systems ; 3) provide coordination, content development, planning and evaluation of training curriculum for San Francisco Bay Area community nonprofit organizations; 4) provide specialized community outreach, crisis intervention, and clinical collaboration to increase mental health consultation capacity in community partners and increase mental health referrals made to CTRP; 5) create competitive, evidence based proposals that allow CTRP to generate continued revenue streams from our current partners; and 6) assist with identifying and applying for philanthropic, state and federal grants that support mental health service delivery for trauma exposed families with young children ranging from prenatal to 5 years of age.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $53.51 - $82.97 (Step Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Ph.D., PsyD degree in clinical psychology and one year of post-doctoral experience in clinical psychology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to the position. Current, valid license in California as a psychologist. Out of state licensed psychologist have 180 days to complete licensure requirements in the State of California.
  • Rostered in Child-Parent Psychotherapy
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients' rights and workers rights.
  • Advanced ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic approach and modify as necessary.
  • Advanced ability to develop and present educational programs and / or workshops.
  • Advanced ability to create scopes of work, develop unique training concepts, create content for trainings and presentations, and deliver trainings to diverse audiences.
  • Advanced problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse client group.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication with the ability to influence and persuade.
  • Skills associated with program development and implementation.
  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications / systems used in behavioral health settings.
  • Advanced knowledge of infant, toddler and preschooler development.
  • Advanced knowledge of early childhood mental health.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling skills.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi- task with demanding timeframes, and ability to set priorities when confronted with competing requests. Attention to detail and follow-up.
  • Working knowledge of common organization specific and other computer application programs (e.g. Google Drive, Outlook email and calendars, Doodle, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with wide range of positions including executives/faculty, staff, community representatives, and community providers.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge and experience with public health policies for children and families.
  • Knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Experience working in an academic environment.
  • Multi-lingual skills.
  • Ability to provide therapy in Spanish

License/Certification
