JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Senior Accountant - General Fund

LOCATION/DEPT: Finance Department

REPORTS TO (TITLE): General Fund Accounting Manager

FLSA CATEGORY: Full Time, Non-Exempt

PAY GRADE: 408

PAY RATE: $64,195 - $93,083

The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division provides these services to people in need.

OUTCOMES

Perform full scope accounting duties for the General Fund accounting operations. Assist with timely and accurate analysis and reporting. This position is expected to maintain The Salvation Army's high standards of productivity, service excellence, timely results and adherence to policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Reconciliation & Analysis Activities:

    1. Review, analyze and reconcile balance sheet and income statement general ledger accounts, including timely identification and resolution of reconciling items. This includes reconciling various intercompany income and liability accounts.
    2. Prepare bank reconciliations on a monthly basis, including the timely identification and resolution of reconciling items.
    3. Review cash flow needs or requirements ongoing, providing recommendations as required.
    4. Review reconciliations of various general ledger accounts that have been prepared by other General Fund accounting staff.
    5. Support the annual budget process including ensuring the accuracy of budgets entered in Acumatica


  2. Financial Services & Activities:

    1. Post various journal entries in the areas of reconciliation corrections, payroll distributions, insurance and pension expense distributions, support service earnings, interest earnings and standard charges and assessments.
    2. Preparation of monthly and annual financial reports.
    3. Provide financial consultation to General Fund department managers and staff as required.
    4. Ensure the timely completion of the monthly and year-end general ledger closings.
    5. Complete all start-up activities required to open or begin a new fiscal year.
    6. Review General Ledger activity on a regular basis to ensure proper account distributions, including transaction edit listings.


  3. Other:

    1. Serve as a backup the General Fund Accountant.
    2. Assist with internal audits by preparing requested responses, reconciliations and work papers supported by adequate documentation.
    3. Assist with researching or resolving questions from vendors or department directors as requested.
    4. Other duties as assigned




REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the General Fund Accounting Manager. This individual also relates to

and interacts with a wide range of contacts both within and outside The Salvation Army.

During these interactions, they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASURMENTS

This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals. An evaluation of how effectively staff and professional contacts respond to the services being provided will also be done.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:



  • An accounting and finance professional with a minimum of 5 years experience.
  • A well-balanced background in non-profit general ledger, financial analysis and account reconciliations.
  • Use of web-based computerized accounting systems and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in accounting or comparable experience.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or faith-based organization is preferred.
  • Experience in a multi-entity organization is a plus.

POSITION LIMITATIONS



  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the General Fund Accounting Manager informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT



  • This position is required to do some light physical work.
  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC.
  • The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a low noise level.
