Company Profile

With more than 120 operations and approximately 20,000 employees worldwide, Precision Castparts Corp. is the market leader in manufacturing large, complex structural investment castings, airfoil castings, forged components, aerostructures and highly engineered, critical fasteners for aerospace applications. In addition, we are the leading producer of airfoil castings for the industrial gas turbine market. We also manufacture extruded seamless pipe, fittings, and forgings for power generation and oil & gas applications; commercial and military airframe aerostructures; and metal alloys and other materials for the casting and forging industries. With such critical applications, we insist on quality and dependability - not just in the materials and products we make, but in the people we recruit.

PCC is relentless in its dedication to being a high-quality, low-cost and on-time producer; delivering the highest value to its customers while continually pursuing strategic, profitable growth.

In 2016, Berkshire Hathaway, led by Chairman and CEO Warren E. Buffett, acquired Precision Castparts Corp.

Job Description

Shift: Day Shift, 4am-12:30pm

PURPOSE:

The Blender supports PCC Carson City's casting operations by performing precision blending, contour correction, and surface finishing on raw castings using a variety of pneumatic and hand tools. This role focuses on restoring dimensional integrity, removing defects, and reshaping cast surfaces to meet drawing, RMS, and technique-card requirements. Working under general supervision, the Blender ensures castings conform to strict aerospace visual and dimensional quality standards while maintaining safe and efficient work practices.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Precision Blending & Surface Refinement

  • Perform precision blending, smoothing, and contour correction to remove surface defects and restore geometry per blueprint requirements.
  • Blend welded areas and excess metal to achieve uniform contours, correct profiles, and required RMS finish.
  • Interpret blueprints and technique cards to determine blending specifications, tolerances, and acceptable surface conditions.
  • Use burr guns, grinders, abrasive tools, and specialized finishing equipment to refine cast surfaces without introducing new defects.

Dimensional Inspection & Documentation

  • Perform dimensional checks using calipers, micrometers, height gages, feeler gages, surface finish gages, and fixtures.
  • Inspect blended surfaces for imperfections such as flow lines, fins, sinks, porosity, cracks, non-fill, and surface finish deviations.
  • Verify that blending corrections maintain conformity to drawing tolerances.
  • Ensure proper labeling and chain-of-custody practices for castings per QCP/OPC requirements.

Equipment Care & Tooling Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance on finishing equipment; recognize when belts, burrs, or collets need to be changed or sharpened.
  • Adjust tools and equipment to ensure optimum running conditions.
  • Safely handle all tools, dies, equipment, and forklifts as required.

Safety & Workflow Support

  • Follow all plant and department safety rules and use required PPE.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Communicate production issues or workflow concerns to the supervisor.
  • Notify supervisor when workload is low or materials are needed.

Team & Documentation

  • Access and update production and quality systems to track work orders and part history.
  • Interpret work instructions, process sheets, and quality control plans (QCPs).
  • Train in standard operating procedures through verbal, written, and practical instruction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production goals and continuous improvement.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods during the shift.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds independently and using lifting devices for heavier materials or tooling.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills required
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and work in various postures as needed to set up machines and inspect parts.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to metal, lubricants, noise, and moving equipment.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in manufacturing, metal finishing, grinding, precision blending or related work preferred; training is provided on the job.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow technique cards, blueprints, and written instructions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools.
  • Basic math skills and ability to use simple to moderately complex measuring devices and fixtures.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

BENEFITS:

  • Eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, based on performance.
  • 80 hours of paid time off annually, plus 10 paid holidays.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate.
  • Company-paid basic life insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company contribution.
