Responsibilities

Mesilla Valley Hospital has been in operation since 1987, serving those in need of treatment for a variety of psychiatric and substance abuse issues. Mesilla Valley Hospital is a 120-bed facility, providing access to quality behavioral healthcare and substance abuse treatment to residents of New Mexico, West Texas and Arizona. MVH is the leader in providing quality mental health and addiction treatment services. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Supervisor of Health Information Management (HIM)/Medical Records is responsible for assisting the Director of the Health Information Management Department in the management of all patient's medical records information, ensuring compliance with all state and federal laws, rules/regulation of licensing agencies and within JCAHO standards for the quality of patient care. This position will help to cover the Director when necessary.


Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

Associates degree required, and additional Medical Records/secretarial training preferred. Experience equivalent in work such as filing, typing (40 wpm) and computer experience using Microsoft applications, i.e. Word/Excel/ Power Point/Outlook preferred.

SKILLS:

  1. Knowledge of psychiatric and medical codes is essential.
  2. Knowledge of State and Regulatory agency laws.
  3. Communicates with people at all levels; maintain strong working relationships with hospital staff, Leadership Team and Providers.
  4. Self starter and works independently; must be able to perform assignments with minimal or no supervision;
  5. Organizational skills, efficiently prioritizes and completes assignments to meet necessary deadlines.
  6. Works successfully under highly stressful conditions;
  7. Uses discretion and makes sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles;
  8. Comprehends and communicates oral and written instructions and procedures;
  9. Adapts to varying projects and activities on a constant basis;
  10. Demonstrates effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal.
