The Senior Land Projects Analyst is responsible for managing, researching, and resolving unclaimed property (escheat) obligations related to mineral interests, royalty payments and suspense accounts. This role ensures compliance with state unclaimed property laws, maintains accurate records, prepares annual reports, and coordinates with internal teams, owners and state agencies. This position will also recommend and implement improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and compliance for special projects in the Land department. This position reports directly to the Manager of Owner Relations, Records Management, and Special Projects and is located in downtown Houston, TX. Hybrid work schedule is an option for remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Level and salary commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Review state unclaimed property statutes and ensures company compliance with reporting and escheatment requirements.
  • Prepare and file accurate and timely unclaimed property reports for multiple states.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of evolving unclaimed property regulations in oil & gas producing states.
  • Independently analyze revenue data and investigate owner records, title documentation, and mineral interest to resolve suspended or unclaimed accounts.
  • Perform due diligence, including mailings and outreach, prior to remitting funds to states.
  • Assist in developing internal controls and procedures for unclaimed property.
  • Supporting special projects aimed at workflow improvements and modernization within the Land Teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7 years of experience in oil & gas revenue, land administration, accounting, or unclaimed property
  • Knowledge of state unclaimed property laws and escheat processes
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment; flexible with the demands of a growing company
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of relevant experience in oil and gas unclaimed property
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word
  • Proficient in Enertia Land/Revenue Software, M-Files, and HRS Pro
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage large data sets and meet strict deadlines.
