Overview:
This advanced-level position is for individuals with 4-6 years of experience in lighting design. The role involves applying advanced concepts and developing innovative design solutions for large projects. You will manage all phases of projects-from proposal development through construction completion-with authority to direct, control, and monitor activities. Responsibilities include budgeting, scheduling, planning, design, specifications, and working drawings.
Key Responsibilities
Design Complexity:
- Apply advanced concepts and solve complex problems independently.
- Develop medium and complex reports; troubleshoot operating systems.
- Create specifications for medium and complex projects.
- Perform lighting calculations, analysis, and rendering studies; use results to inform decisions.
- Document lighting layouts in Revit and/or AutoCAD.
- Assist with lighting mock-ups and design presentations.
- Support design presentations and construction documentation for architectural lighting projects.
- Take responsibility for lighting calculations, energy/economic analysis, and building certification compliance credits.
- Provide technical assistance on design, installation, and integration issues for innovative lighting solutions.
- Supervise junior lighting designers as needed.
Construction Administration:
- Review submittals and respond to contractor inquiries during construction.
- Produce meeting reports and punch lists.
Management Skills:
- Manage multiple large-scale projects and design staff.
- Monitor and manage project budgets effectively.
- Mentor less experienced designers.
Other Duties:
- Occasional out-of-town travel for project work or site visits.
- Support marketing efforts.
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Expertise in design software: Agi32 (or similar), AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, InDesign, SketchUp, Newforma.
