Summary

Responsible for enforcing city ordinances and development codes related to nuisance, health, safety, and property maintenance, including minimum housing requirements for single-family residential, multi-family, commercial properties, and zoning standards.

Pay Range: $25.50 - $28.79 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Work Schedule: TBD (Occasional weekend work may be required based on business needs.)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Respond to and investigate citizen complaints and communicate with property owners/managers.

  • Actively patrol assigned areas to identify code violations.

  • Issue notices of violation, citations, inspection reports, and nuisance abatement work orders for city contractors.

  • Assist in case file management, prepare cases for warrants and Property Standards Board hearings, and represent the City in court as required.

  • Perform scheduled inspections to enforce City Ordinances, Garland Development Code, and International Building and Residential Codes.

  • Represent the City at homeowner and neighborhood association meetings.

  • Maintain continuing education units (CEUs) for Code Officer Certification as required by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

  • Conduct zoning inspections.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 60 college credit hours or advanced training beyond high school level in a related area.

  • 1 year of experience in code enforcement.

  • Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certification

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

The incumbent works primarily in an outdoor environment with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and walk on uneven and unpaved surfaces over extended distances.
