Job Summary:

Reporting to the Dean of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, the Associate Dean is responsible for developing, distinguishing, and enhancing the communications and public profile of the Law School. Serving as a key member of the Dean's Senior Leadership Team, the incumbent will be charged with identifying, realizing and implementing a strategic vision that is driven by the Dean and draws on the academic excellence, research, technological and educational innovation within the School. The incumbent will lead the efforts to promote the Law School brand and reputation, as well as build public visibility. Additionally, this position will implement strategies and best practices to ensure a strong and consistent image and brand identity in all School marketing strategies, publications, web sites, social media, digital marketing and mobile platforms. The Associate Dean manages a team of seven full-time employees and oversees a departmental budget of approximately $1,000,000.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Principal responsibility for and oversight of a comprehensive marketing and communications plan for Northwestern Pritzker School of Law.
    • Initiate, develop, and implement strategies to promote the brand and reputation of the Law School and its various programs.
    • Identify, realize, and implement a strategic vision that is driven by the Dean and draws on the academic excellence, research, technological and educational innovation within the School.
    • Advance awareness of the Dean's vision and leadership, School's mission and program excellence among key audiences.
  • Integrate all School communications vehicles and strategies (print, online, social media, content marketing, etc.) to ensure consistent, accurate, and timely information across the School's spectrum of communications in order to achieve enrollment, advancement, and key strategic initiatives and goals.
  • Establish, manage, and strengthen relationships with reporters associated with key print and digital media outlets in target geographic markets nationally and internationally.
  • Work closely with colleagues throughout the Law School and University to develop and manage initiatives to increase the visibility and impact of the School's dean, faculty, students, and alumni in the press and legal and business community.
  • Measure, track, and work to increase volume of placements within target print and digital media sources about and by Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and its constituents.
  • Work closely with and serve as the Law School's primary contact with Northwestern University's Vice Presidents and Departments of Global Marketing and University Relations.
  • Stay abreast of communications and market trends, as well as new technologies, and oversee the implementation of innovative mechanisms and/or modifications of existing practices.
  • Identify best practices for outreach strategies by conducting market research and analyzing data.
  • Assist the Dean and others with drafting and placing Op-eds in national outlets.
  • Establish and manage the Law School's crisis communication protocols.
  • Lead and manage a talented team of seven full-time employees engaged in all areas of a successful marketing and communications team.
  • Fiscal responsibility for all communications initiatives, including an operating budget of approximately $200,000.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 10+ years of related experience

  • Management experience

  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills

  • Project management skills

  • Strong teamwork, diplomacy, and outreach abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

Target hiring range for this position will be between $182,917 to $250,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
