Vaco is seekinga hands-on, people-focused Financial Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations and elevate the controllership function across multiple entities. This role is critical to strengthening financial rigor, improving processes, and enabling the Director of Finance to focus on higher-level strategic initiatives.

The Controller will oversee a small accounting team and own the monthly close, financial reporting, and general ledger integrity while operating in a fast-paced, growth-orientedenvironment where adaptability and a willingness to wear multiple hats are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations:
  • Own all day-to-day accounting activities including A/P, A/R, payroll oversight, fixed assets, general ledger, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Lead and continuously improve the month-end and year-end close process
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
  • Maintain and reconcile intercompany accounts and support multi-entity consolidation.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Perform variance analysis against budget and forecast; clearly explain drivers and implications.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning.
  • Strengthen balance sheet integrity through disciplined review and analytics.
  • Develop internal reporting tools and dashboards to improve financial visibility.
Leadership & Team Management:
  • Directly manage and develop the accounting team.
  • Provide daily guidance, answer technical questions, and elevate team capability.
  • Improve utilization of staff resources through coaching, delegation, and process clarity.
  • Serve as the primary accounting leader and escalation point for the organization.
Systems & Process Improvement:
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and controls.
  • Optimize current systems, including QuickBooks Online and integrated billing platforms feeding into the GL.
  • Support future ERP discovery and implementation planning
  • Clean up and standardize the chart of accounts and accounting structures across entities.
Compliance, Audit, & Controls:
  • Coordinate with external CPA firms on audits, reviews, and tax filings.
  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Partner closely with the Director of Finance, Operations, and HR.
  • Support leadership with accurate, timely financial insights to inform decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of accounting policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
Must-Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (required) - non-accounting degrees will not be considered.
  • Proven experience leading and managing an accounting team.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and core controllership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated success driving process improvements in accounting environments.
  • Experience supporting multi-entity organizations, including intercompany transactions.
  • Advanced analytical skills, including variance analysis and balance sheet review.

Preferred:
  • CPA or CMA (preferred, not required)
  • Experience with ERP implementations or upgrades (any platform).
  • Background in manufacturing, construction, logistics, or other similar industries.
    Prior exposure to shared services or complex organizational structures.

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco by Highspring believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
