Compensation: $80.00 - 85.00 per hour W2, depending on skill and experience level.

Summary

The Storage Systems Engineer is responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrading, and ongoing support of servers and related hardware and software across LAN, WAN, and stand-alone environments. This role provides hands-on investigation, diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and resolution of system, hardware, software, and infrastructure issues to ensure reliable and secure operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Configure, install, and support equipment in alignment with business specifications

  • Maintain software applications and operating systems through routine maintenance and patching.

  • Create and maintain configuration and support documentation.

  • Manage assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives.

  • Supervise system and server administration to ensure service availability for authorized users.

  • Maintain multi-site network operations, software applications, and operating systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and security system issues to restore services and maintain operational stability

What the Role Is Today

  • "Keep the lights on" storage operations within the data center.

  • Strong emphasis on support, maintenance, patching, and issue resolution

  • Approximately 80-90% operational focus initially

  • Hands-on support of Dell storage environments rather than architecture-heavy design work

  • Troubleshooting performance, replication, and day-to-day operational issues

  • No data engineering or application development responsibilities

How the Role Evolves

  • Gradual involvement in cloud storage planning and migration initiatives

  • Supporting the definition of cloud storage use cases as they continue to be clarified

  • Serving as a subject-matter expert to guide internal teams and partners on cloud storage decisions

  • By the end of 2026, the role transitions toward approximately 80% transformation work versus operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline

Required Skills/Experience
  • 10+ years of experience as a Storage / Systems Engineer

  • Dell Storage expertise (core requirement), including:

    • PowerScale (Epsilon)

    • PowerMax (block storage)

  • Cisco SAN Fabric experience

  • SyncIQ for replication and disaster recovery

  • Strong operational troubleshooting skills
  • Records management experience, including policies, retention, and support (healthcare experience not required)

Nice to Have/Desired Skills

  • AWS storage experience (highly desired)
  • Experience with on-prem to cloud storage migrations
  • Exposure to tools such as NetApp / NetNew or similar migration technologies
  • Broader familiarity with cloud infrastructure

Work Model & Support Expectations

  • Standard business hours

  • On-call rotation every third week with limited off-hours impact
