Overview
The College of Veterinary Medicine at Utah State University is looking for simulated clients to assist in teaching professional-grade communication skills to our veterinary students.

As a part of our Clinical Communications program, our simulated clients are given a simulated veterinary scenario to study and play out with the students and their coaches. You will be expected to embrace the role of an animal owner who is seeking professional veterinary guidance and/or medical treatment. Your ability to adopt the role, eb & flow with a range of emotions and concerns, and provide believable responses, will be important in helping our students to see how their communication impacts the people they'll encounter as veterinarians.

The following are the dates for Training (TBD) and Class (8 am-12 pm):

Simulated learning is a fun way to help our students practice real situations. A sort of "rehearsal for the real world", if you will.

Responsibilities
  • Study and memorize specific scenarios & the facts within.
  • Work cooperatively in a team setting.
  • Be punctual and dependable.
  • Give constructive feedback (Some training provided).
  • Receive constructive feedback & develop your skills as a simulated client.
  • Wear character appropriate attire in order to embrace your role as an animal owner.


Qualifications
  • Willingness to be audio and video recorded for educational purposes.
  • Some basic knowledge of animals (Dog, Cat, Equine, Farm... etc).
  • Acting experience is an advantage, but not required (Some training provided).
  • Ability to commit to the time needed to fulfill the job duties.

The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).

The CVM Simulated Client will be joining the college at an exciting point of transformation. Currently, the USU College of Veterinary Medicine participates in a "2+2" program with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University and the broader Washington-Idaho-Montana-Utah (WIMU) Regional Program in Veterinary Medicine, which provides instruction to 30 students in each class cohort. However, in 2022 the state of Utah approved the creation of a full four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree program at USU, with the goal of admitting its inaugural class of 40 students in the fall of 2025 and supporting a class size of 80 veterinary students in subsequent years. The new college is the only veterinary medical education program in Utah.
