Overview

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is an employee-owned federal government contractor supporting national priority programs through our strategic solutions in the areas of Information Technology, Test & Evaluation, Program Mission Support, Engineering & Analysis, and Training.

This is a hands-on engineering support position that performs the full range of technician and para-engineering duties that applies engineering technology and systems engineering concepts to support specialized technical tasks at the Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC).
The position is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and sustainment of the NASA Flight Loads Laboratory test network architecture and data acquisition and display systems, including both hardware and software.
The position also requires demonstrated ability to support the development of data acquisition plans for testing activities, including defining hardware and software specifications to ensure proper interfacing between the data acquisition system and the system under test. Excellent computer skills are required.
This role demands the ability to work and lead effectively in a dynamic, multi-task environment by prioritizing work, coordinating task and project schedules, and managing and decomposing technical requirements across multiple focus areas. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment are essential.


Responsibilities

    Design, develop, and implement data collection strategies to support testing activities within the Flight Loads Laboratory.
  • Support all phases of test execution with a primary focus on data acquisition and data handling systems; responsibilities may also include ancillary duties such as serving as a safety monitor or performing other technician-level functions, as required.
  • Serve as an experienced technical troubleshooter with the ability to rapidly identify, isolate, and resolve hardware, software, or system-level issues, including the development and execution of systematic fault-isolation plans.
  • Perform operational integration activities and interface verification checks to ensure system compatibility, functionality, and readiness for test execution.
  • Support information technology security compliance and continuous improvement efforts, including software maintenance, system updates, data archiving, and data recovery processes.
  • Collaborate closely with test engineers to ensure test systems are properly configured, verified, and aligned with the objectives of assigned test campaigns.
  • Perform all work in accordance with NASA ISO AS9100 quality management procedures and applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Adhere to all safety practices, rules, and requirements outlined in the Safety and Health Plan and other safety communications applicable to the work environment.
  • Provide timely and standardized status reporting to the Senior Technical Lead and/or Functional Area Lead, in accordance with established reporting requirements and schedules.


Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must successfully pass drug testing requirements.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Associate's degree with at least 2-4 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team are required.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, including adherence to established safe work practices and standards, taking responsibility for personal and coworker safety, and encouraging a safe work environment.
  • Must maintain a positive and professional work atmosphere by communicating and interacting effectively with customers, clients, coworkers, and management.
  • Must be capable of performing work activities that require interaction with others, including negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading, or presenting information.
  • Must be able to work under supervision and respond appropriately and professionally to supervisory guidance and constructive feedback.

Work Hours and Attendance:

  • Must be able to work within established core hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; flexibility may be required based on workload and operational needs.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is essential, except for approved leave such as STD, LTD, FMLA, or authorized time off.

Physical and Travel Requirements:

  • Physical Requirements (Medium): Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Travel Requirements: Some travel may be required, both locally and long distance.


Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $65,700.00/Yr. - USD $109,700.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
