Duties & Responsibilities

Learning Objectives:

  • Strategic Self-Development: Build confidence and self-awareness. Cultivate self-awareness and career clarity while building the confidence to navigate and lead in new environments. Define your professional trajectory by gaining hands-on experience and improving adaptability in diverse settings.
Interns will observe and learn from the Case Management team:
  • Documentation: Maintain daily and monthly records, update the ITRS and MIS systems, and complete critical incident reports and QMHP service notes.
  • Service Planning: Develop and update Person-Centered Plans (PCPs) and ensure all paperwork meets licensure standards.
  • Monitoring: Conduct weekly consumer consultations and monthly foster parent consultations, including oversight of medication administration records.
  • Advocacy: Attend and represent the agency at court hearings, DSS meetings, and IEP sessions.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain consistent contact with foster parents, natural families, and child/family team members.
  • Meetings: Facilitate visitation and participate in Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings and community partner sessions.
  • Training: Assist in or lead workshops and provide childcare support during agency training events.
  • Supervision: Actively participate in weekly program supervision, monthly individual sessions, and bi-monthly case reviews.

Other Duties Include, But Not Limited To

  • Maintain a high standard of role model behavior for youth and families.
  • Participate in training and development activities as required.
  • Adheres to the corporate Code of Conduct and Professional Ethics. Ensure adherence to Eckerd's Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents per Eckerd policy and state guidelines.
  • Report any acts, incidents, or conditions that reflect the possibility of inappropriate participant-to-participant or staff-to-participant/family relationships, and/or liable situations as per Eckerd policy and state guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum High School Diploma or GED. Currently enrolled in Bachelor's Degree program at an accredited College, University, Technical, Vocational, or Certification Program in a Human Services field, or a related field that requires or allows internship as part of the program; must be able to provide eligibility letter from instructor or institution.
  • Experience: Preferred, one-year experience working with children or families.
    Skills: Ability to practice all Eckerd Connects policies and procedures related to privacy and security practices cited in the Health Insurance Portability and Privacy Act (HIPPA) applicable to the program and position; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Public speaking skills; Must be highly motivated and self-directed. Ability to learn and retain knowledge of community resources, service referrals and linkage, and child development; including physical, mental, emotional and cultural and ethnicity issues required. Ability to learn and retain knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations and practices related to Family Foster Care Program. Ability to work under stressful situations with poise. Skilled ability in computer systems including PC software, spreadsheets, Word, Access, PowerPoint and other applications. Detail and organizational skills critical. Time management skills are necessary to accomplish this position. Ability to maintain good rapport with community partners and supports, other employees, and demonstrate constructive problem-solving skills.
  • Other: Must successfully pass a background screening process, including, but not limited to, state, local, and funder criminal background check requirements. Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
  • Travel: Must be able to meet requirements for Eckerd's Auto Insurance and be able to drive for business purposes. Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid NC driver's license and have reliable transportation. Required to travel frequently between office and locations within the service area, attend meetings and conferences required to fulfill the obligations and responsibilities of the position.
  • Physical Demands: Working conditions are normal for office environments and meetings in community-based settings. Sitting, standing, walking and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. Operating a personal computer is a routine part of the job. Incumbents must be able to travel to outlaying offices and offsite meetings. The work schedule fluctuates according to the demands of the position. There may be potential exposure to clients that may exhibit physically and/or verbally aggressive behaviors. There may be potential exposure to communicable diseases. Must be free of communicable disease as defined by the appropriate state and to the extent that knowledge is attainable under the law.

About our Program:

Eckerd Connects' CARING for Children Foster Care Services consists of Family Foster Care and Therapeutic Foster Care. CARING for Children's Family Foster Care programs provide services to children in the custody of the Department of Social Services.

Therapeutic Foster Care is a specialized Level II mental health foster care program designed to work with youth of all ages who have a history of behavioral, emotional, medical, and/or mental health problems. Licensed foster parents work with children on the issues that caused them to be placed out-of-home. Case Managers provide intensive support to foster parents while the youth is in care. Referrals to the program are made through a mental health provider, and fees are paid through Medicaid or another third-party funding source. Homes are available in most western counties. Stays range from a few weeks to several years if medically necessary.
