Working Title Postdoctoral Research Scholar
Details

The Neural and Cardiovascular Physiology Laboratory (NCPL), under the direction of Dr. Kanokwan (Mandy) Bunsawat, is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scholar. The lab's current research agenda is focused on understanding mechanisms underlying autonomic and vascular dysfunction and identifying lifestyle and pharmacological strategies to improve these aspects of physiology in health and disease with an emphasis on age- and sex-related health disparities.

The postdoctoral scholar's specific project-related responsibilities will be developed in consultation with Dr. Bunsawat and may include project management, data collection, data analysis, manuscript preparation and submission, conference presentations, grant proposals and new project developments, and co-mentorship of junior colleagues on the research team.

The successful candidate will be involved in studying the effects of lifestyle and pharmacological interventions on several physiological outcomes in health and disease in human participants. The postdoctoral scholar will have access to existing data, collaborators in the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Medicine. The successful candidate is expected to qualify for training grants and fellowships.

The postdoctoral position is a one-year full-time appointment with the possibility of reappointment depending on performance as it relates to their initiative, support of the lab, publication record, and available funding.

REQUIREMENTS

* PhD in human physiology, exercise physiology, or closely related field. If the candidate can demonstrate that PhD degree requirements have been met, but that the degree will not be officially conferred until a later date, the applicant may be considered to meet this requirement.

* Experience in conducting human clinical trials and a willingness to acquire new complementary skills.

* Applicants should be passionate about conducting scientific research as it relates to the core focus of the NCPL, which is improving our understanding of factors that impar as well as strategies that improve neurovascular function and exercise capacity in health and disease.

* The selected candidate must be able to contribute effectively to the success of the NCPL and develop and propose relevant research questions related to the core mission of the laboratory. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently are essential to success in this position, as are good communication and organizational skills.

* The selected candidate is expected to have experience conducting human clinical trials, excellent interpersonal and writing skills, and the ability to work effectively with other lab members, study participants, and the public.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience proposing, designing, and executing and interpreting experiments.

* Experience in one or more of these areas: Doppler ultrasound assessment of vascular function and exercise blood flow; microneurography for the assessment of muscle sympathetic nerve activity; and assessment of lifestyle factors such as sleep, activity levels, cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, and stress levels.
