About the Job

Oversees day-to-day operations for Lions Gift of Sight Allocation department and manage Transplant Allocation Coordinators and Courier Drivers. Evaluates surgical tissue supply, demand, and import and export opportunities and make decisions to ensure optimal tissue placement. Builds and cultivates strong relationships with surgeons, surgery centers, and eye bank partners. Reviews and maintains LGS policies and procedures relating to transplant tissue allocation and addresses Allocation-related Quality Control Reports.

75%-Manage Transplant Allocation Department:

  • Responsible for overseeing day-to-day allocation of ocular tissue for transplant.
  • Evaluate surgical tissue supply, demand, and import and export opportunities and make decisions that ensure optimal ocular tissue placement with regards to tissue suitability, surgeon requirements, revenue, and ethical use of donated human tissue gifts.
  • Work with Medical Director Designees and laboratory staff, communicating potential changes throughout the workday.
  • Work with the Director of Business Development to develop and maintain processes and relationships with surgeons and surgery centers, other eye banks, and new and existing international placement programs.
  • Monitor and adjust logistical solutions for tissue movement.
  • Build and cultivate strong relationships with clients and partners, fostering open communication and collaborative partnerships.
  • Coordinate the creation and distribution of thoughtful, personalized communications with surgeons and surgery centers alongside the Director of Public and Partner Relations.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for facilities' Surgeon Portals. Facilitate new Portal setup and training and maintain as needed.
  • Ensure transplant tissue is approved for invoicing daily and perform monthly billing audits alongside Office & Accounts Receivable Specialist.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Transplant Allocation and be an integral part of LGS's continued development by participating in process improvements, CAPA investigations, strategic planning meetings, etc. as needed.
  • Serve as the Allocation subject matter expert for iTransplant verifications.
  • Collaborate cross departmentally to ensure operational success.

15%- Regulatory Compliance and Quality Systems:

  • Maintain accurate and complete record of transplant distribution in iTransplant
  • Maintain intimate working knowledge of and LGS compliance with EBAA medical and technical standards as well as FDA rules and regulation and guidance.
  • Maintain familiarity with eye banking best practices.
  • Review LGS policies and procedures relating to transplant tissue allocation at least annually or more frequently as needed. Ensure these policies and procedures are accurate and compliant.
  • Revise, originate, or obsolete policies, procedures, and forms as directed by the Director of Clinical Operations.
  • Ensure training is provided to relevant personnel for all changes in policies and procedures prior to implementation
  • Collaborate on eye bank database development, maintenance, and training.
  • Address Quality Control Reports in a timely fashion to ensure appropriate notification and resolution.

10% - Personnel Supervision and Training:

  • Hire, train, and supervise Transplant Allocation Coordinators and Courier Drivers.
  • Hire and supervise Courier Drivers. Collaborate with onsite leadership responsible for training Courier Drivers.
  • Approve timesheets and reimbursement requests for direct reports.
    Ensure development and completion of annual training and competencies for Allocation Coordination staff, including assurance of documentation of completed training.
  • Create and maintain resource documents and job aids.

General Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an ambassador of Lions Gift of Sight services to the public and in all external interactions.
  • Train and model safe work habits always.
  • Practice attitudes and behaviors consistent with LGS values of integrity, quality, innovation, exceptional service, compassion, and leadership.
  • Practice effective, respectful, and proactive communication with LGS staff and with staff from other organizations.
  • Obtain and maintain certification as a Certified Eye Banker or Certified Eye Banker - Technical.
  • Liaison with local, national, and international organizations as needed regarding transplant tissue allocation.
  • Attend national eye banking functions and represent LGS as directed.
  • Serve on national committees as requested (EBAA, Donate Life America, etc.).
  • Routinely review and adhere to all Lions Gift of Sight and University of Minnesota policies and procedures, staying compliant with training and competency deadlines.
  • Attend and participate in staff, technical, and other meetings as required.
  • Participate in strategic plan initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS plus at least two years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least 6 years.
  • Ability to collaborate cross functionally to ensure operational success.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills in a high volume or high-risk setting.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an eye bank setting.
  • Leadership and employee supervision experience.
  • CEB or CEBT (Certified Eye Banker or Certified Eye Bank Technician)

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $33.63hr to $36.06hr, we anticipate most offers will be around the midpoint of this range, depending on education and experience.
