Job Overview:
The Risk Specialist is a valued contributor to the Risk Management team, reporting directly to the Director of Risk Management and Insurance. This position acts as a primary point of contact for internal and external customers. The position works directly with departments across the University of Minnesota on their insurance questions and also works with the University's insurance broker to prepare and coordinate insurance renewals.

Work Environment: Hybrid (minimum three days in the office)

Job Duties and Responsibilities with % of Time:

Insurance Program Support (35%):
* Lead the preparation and coordination of insurance renewal information (applications and other underwriting exposure data collections) for the University's commercial insurance programs (Property, General, Professional and Auto Liability, Crime, Media, Marine, etc.).
* Function as the central point of contact across the University of Minnesota, the insurance broker, and the captive manager.
* Analyze and review various University contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with insurance standards, proactively consulting with departments to minimize exposure.
* Maintain insurance policy list.

Financial Support (25%):
* Initiate and process critical financial transactions, including vendor payments, purchase orders,and contracts for professional services, in coordination with the University's Financial Operations Team.
* Calculate, coordinate and process the annual insurance cost allocation and premium chargebacks to departments across the University of Minnesota.
* Monitor and reconcile Risk Management's central University budget account(s).
* Manage the financial tracking and generate reports for the $2.7 million annual property claims budget.
* Reconcile vendor accounting records and transactions with insurance brokers, insurers, actuaries, and Third Party Claim Administrators.

General Administrative Support (40%):
* Manage the departmental email account, serving as the front-line point of contact to expertly triage inquiries and refer complex matters to the appropriate subject matter experts.
* Facilitate broker issuance of certificates of insurance.
* Review and process internal and external Alcohol Use Applications, ensuring adherence to University policies.
* Act as Claims Specialist's back up. Respond to questions on filing claims, claim status, requests for payroll information, invoice payment, etc.
* Establish, maintain, and archive comprehensive departmental files and key documents in alignment with University retention guidelines.
* Assist with Google Calendar/meeting scheduling.
* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications (please document on resume):

* BA/BS plus at least two years of professional work experience OR a combination of related education and work experience to equal six years.
* Self-motivated, assertive and highly-detail orientated professional who consistently takes initiative to drive projects forward.
* Demonstrated expertise in data analytics with a proven ability to process complex data sets and manage server-based entry.
* Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to independently diagnose complex problems and implement effective solutions.
* Proficiency in standard office software, including Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Calendar, etc.

Preferred Qualifications (please document on resume):

* Direct experience working in Insurance or Risk Management including property, liability, auto and worker's compensation insurance
* Strong knowledge of University Policies,Procedures, Operations and internal resources

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $63,000 - $75,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment

Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
