Rutgers University seeks an Associate Data Analyst for the University Finance and Administration. This position will provide support by preparing, integrating, and validating data for accurate and reliable reporting. Reporting to the Senior Manager,
UFA Data Analytics, this role collaborates across departments to deliver trusted data solutions that support accurate reporting and operational effectiveness. In addition to data management responsibilities, the role supports operational reporting needs across
UFA, including Tableau-based reports and
ERP reporting.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Assist in gathering, preparing, and curating data from multiple sources, including ERP systems, databases, and external datasets, to support reporting and analytical use.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the university, including subject matter experts, OIT partners, business managers, campus leaders, and University Finance units, to understand reporting needs and ensure data solutions meet business requirements.
- Assist in developing and maintaining workflows for data acquisition, validation, transformation, and integration.
- Create and maintain operational reports, including Tableau-based reporting and selected ERP reports such as FRS, OTBI, BI Publisher, and Smart View.
- Apply data quality checks to remove inaccuracies, duplicates, and inconsistencies, and perform data validation to identify and resolve data quality issues.
- Support data integrity, security, and appropriate access within data environments.
- Support the creation and maintenance of data pipelines and integration workflows using SQL, Python, and related tools. Use cloud-based data tools (e.g., OCI, Azure) as needed for data processing and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with data governance standards and maintain metadata, data definitions, data lineage, and transformation documentation.
- Provide technical support related to data sources, data quality, and reporting workflows.
- Create, maintain, and update technical and non-technical documentation for data assets and reporting solutions.
- Stay current with best practices in data management, data engineering, and reporting to support continuous improvement.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve data processes, workflows, and reporting efficiency.
- Support data literacy initiatives and assist stakeholders with data sources, reporting workflows, and data quality processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Administration, or a related field, and at least two (2) years of experience as a data analyst or in a similar role.
- A master's degree in a related field may substitute for the experience requirement.

Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in SQL and Python for data preparation, transformation, and automation of ETL workflows.
- Experience with Tableau Prep for data preparation and workflow development.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Proficiency with Tableau to support operational reporting.
- Understanding of data modeling concepts, governance compliance, and ability to maintain data lineage and metadata documentation.
- Familiarity with pipeline orchestration and cloud platforms (OCI, Azure, or equivalent) for data integration and storage.
- Experience using SQL Server tools such as SSIS and Visual Studio for data transformation, ETL development, and workflow automation.
Core Competencies:
- Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose data quality issues, inconsistencies, and source-system discrepancies.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate across teams and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with Higher Education and Finance data.
