THE POSITION

In this role, you will engage in a variety of specialized tasks, including roadside development, maintenance and rehabilitation of rest areas, erosion control, and landscape design. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for roadside maintenance and erosion control activities, which encompass tasks such as planting, trimming, and removing shrubs, trees, and vines, as well as seeding, mulching, and managing weeds, pests, and plant diseases. Your duties will also include stump removal, slope revitalization, and inspecting nursery stock, seeds, soil supplements, and safety features at roadside rests and overlooks. You will establish guidelines and implement necessary procedures to ensure the effective execution of roadside development operations carried out by both Department Forces and Contractors. Additionally, you will create district-wide programs and prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for various projects related to planting, landscaping, erosion control, and vegetation management. Coordination with District Design, Construction, and Maintenance functions, as well as the Central Office, will be essential to streamline roadside activities and fulfill all assigned responsibilities efficiently.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in technical landscaping and roadside development activities; and an Associate's Degree in agronomy, botany, forestry, horticulture, or a closely related field; or
  • One year as a Roadside Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • A Bachelor's Degree in agronomy, botany, forestry, horticulture, or a closely related field; and one year of experience in technical landscaping and roadside development activities; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
