THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is actively seeking a Survey Technician to become a vital member of our District 5 Team. This role involves engaging in technical fieldwork as part of one of our dedicated Survey Crews, where you will have the opportunity to work outdoors rather than being confined to an office environment. Ideal candidates will possess a solid background in survey and engineering technologies, demonstrating proficiency with both digital and traditional surveying equipment. Additionally, strong communication skills are essential, along with a robust foundation in mathematics and engineering principles. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will engage in a comprehensive array of responsibilities as part of a survey crew. Your tasks will encompass the technical aspects necessary for accurately measuring both natural and artificial features in the field, determining property boundaries, assessing land dimensions, and precisely locating points, lines, and grades. You will utilize a combination of digital and traditional surveying tools, applying strong engineering and mathematical expertise while collaborating with a team to achieve project objectives. Additionally, your duties may include conducting land research at county offices, removing obstacles to visibility, and marking locations with stakes and traffic flags. This role may also require interaction with contractors, community representatives, and other agency personnel, emphasizing the importance of effective communication and teamwork in delivering successful outcomes.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Allentown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments; or
  • One year of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments, and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
