Job Summary

Fishbeck is seeking a Retail Project/Program Manager to join our Grand Rapids, MI or Farmington Hills, MI office. This position will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of retail projects, from conception to completion. This role involves cordoning various aspects of the architectural process, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, on budget, and in adherence to quality standards.


Primary Functions


  • Lead and manage the design, development, and implementation of multi-disciplinary (Architectural, Civil, MEP, Structural, etc.) projects in the retail service area through all phases of the project.
  • Provide exceptional client service.
  • Work with other members of the design team to develop design solutions appropriate to the context, budget, and aesthetic requirements of the client projects.
  • Develop and manage proposals, project plans, project scope, budgets, and schedules related to specific client project(s).
  • Write and publish meeting minutes for project related meetings.
  • Establish and enforce architectural and design standards to maintain the quality of retail spaces.
  • Coordinates design intent with other disciplines.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with architectural plans and specifications.
  • Stay informed about local building codes, zoning regulations, and other legal requirements.
  • Prepares design reports, drawings, and models following firm and client standards.
  • Ensure that all retail projects comply with applicable regulations and obtain necessary permits, while working with our permit specialist(s).
  • Support business development activities including community and client events, presentations, and developing teaming arrangements.
  • Assist in developing, training, and mentoring staff.
  • Manage projects for new and existing clients to help profitably grow the retail department within our A/E Division in alignment with our firm 10-year Vision.



Minimum Physical Requirements

Exposed to occasional lifting and carrying. Will have normal office working conditions and be required to sit and use a computer. Capable of traveling to and maneuvering around project sites for attending client and project meetings and site observations. Able to use various technical equipment for communication and documentation. Visual acuity necessary to perform responsibilities.


Desired Education/Licensure

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or Engineering related field.


Desired Skills/Experience


  • 5+ years of experience in successfully managing architectural projects, preferably in the retail sector.
  • Experience in all phases of the A/E project cycle is required.
  • Architectural design software skills including Revit, AutoCAD, and other architectural design software.
  • Familiarity with SketchUp, Enscape, and other 3D rendering software tools.
  • Proficency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and project management software (MS Project or similar).
  • Experience managing multidiscipline project budgets and keeping projects on budget.
  • Familiarity with MEP and Structural building systems and building codes is required.
  • Experience in project management tools such as Procore, Autodesk Build, PlanGrid, and other software.
  • Strong knowledge of architectural design principles, construction methods, and building codes.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
