General Summary The primary role is to assist the remote Optometrist (OD) with eye examinations to include conducting pre-testing and specialized tests utilizing telehealth-related equipment and instruments. Guide patients through the eye care and clinical journey and maintain the doctor's appointment schedule. Essential Functions Serve as a chairside advocate and liaison between patients and telemedicine remote ODs, guiding the patient through the telehealth exam experience Conduct pretesting and explain each step of the process as well as which instruments are used and why each test is necessary Hand off the patient to the optician and explain the remote doctor's recommendations for glasses or contact lenses Prioritize patient care and patient flow while communicating effectively with doctors, staff, and patients Complete pre-appointment confirmation, contact patients from the recall listing, and call all no-show or cancelled appointments to reschedule Instruct patients on medical care as prescribed by the doctor's treatment plan; schedule follow-up appointments if needed Participate in the practice's team meetings and projects as requested and align on patient experience goals/KPIs with the practice Perform operational activities to support the practice including restocking inventory, cleaning equipment, and answering phones Complete other duties as assigned within the practice Job Specifications Typically has the following skills or abilities: One to two years of experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing medications or treatments prescribed by a remote provider Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment High level of personal and professional integrity demonstrated through words and actions Working knowledge of MS Office package Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize multiple tasks and to be available for incoming calls and inquiries Effective written communication skills to clearly document patient visits Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills Ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions to identify patient needs Ability to listen, process transactions, and interact with patients simultaneously in a fast-paced environment Working Conditions The working environment is generally favorable.
